You may have seen my recent mention of the frightening accident suffered by our
friends when a tree limb fell on their boy's head, fracturing his skull. They
finally got to see the pediatric neurosurgeon for an evaluation this week, and
the news was very good, as they are almost certain he will not need any surgery
to correct his condition. This was a long shot, as the doctor estimated that
under 10% of cases like his can be resolved without going under the knife.
Presuming his recovery proceeds as expected, he'll even be able to start
kindergarten in the fall as planned, after there were fears this was going to
disrupt the entire school year. We all couldn't be happier at the news, though
the patient himself is still unhappy, as he's looking at another few months of
extreme limitations on his physical activity, which is tough when you're about
to turn five. But considering how much worse the outcome might have been for so
many aspects of this, it sort of feels like a miracle.
