Star Citizen Ground Battle Video

A new video from Star Citizen offers a cinematic view of a 50-player ground battle from a recent event coordinated in the alpha by the Spanish community for the upcoming space game (thanks DSOGaming). The clip shows off the ups and downs of such a large scale battle, as combat in wide-open expanses shows some evidence of latency issues, as units suffer from jerky movements at times.

First, odds are I won't be anywhere in 2040.

I suppose your lifespan comes down to what happens in November.
Even if I was calling the shots on what happened, I'm still pretty sure I won't be alive in 2040. I would have my 78th birthday in 2040. And while I currently have no health problems(fingers crossed), neither of my parents lived that long and even if I get close to that, I suspect I'll "fix" the problem myself.

I suggest you do everything you can to stay alive as long as possible. Roberts' end game is to get Star Citizen to the point where backers can upload their consciousnesses and live in his universe in perpetuity. Think about it: immortality in the Star Citizen alpha, skimming across vast procedurally generated landscapes, running the same bespoke mission for the 100th time. Sounds like Heaven.

Absolutely no one. Might as well be a dentist waiting room a truck driving or railroad simulator.

True, but Crysis is 10 years old and still looks amazing. I expect much the same here.

It is ridiculous how good that game looked at the time. Imagine if every game since the mid 2000s hadn't been getting dumbed down for the sake of hilariously underpowered piece of shit consoles, what graphics we'd have these days?

Why? Blank

The only "Ground Battle" that's gonna happen is when agents of the Federal Trade Commission come to their senses and raid RSI's offices. Roberts and co. being dragged off in cuffs kicking and screaming....

Well 17 years ago we were playing this:

Tribes 2 is a multiplayer online game, designed for Internet or LAN play with up to 128 players (64 vs 64) or bots per match, although a small single-player tutorial mode is included. The game may be played from both first- and third-person perspectives. Each match takes place on an Earthsiege-themed map. The Tribes 2 engine, an early version of the Torque Game Engine, is capable of both indoor and outdoor maps, with expansive play areas. Player movement about the map may be on foot, using a jet pack, or in various ground and airborne vehicles as pilot, co-pilot, or passenger.

So no. It's not that impressive. Nice textures though.

Well, yes, obviously, but you can't run with those.

Electromagnets. You get them to increase, decrease or reverse their magnetic fields to conveniently mimic the feel of being under gravity.

Calling it now. Star Citizen Battle Royal comes first, if it flops. End. If it's a moderate success Star Citizen carries on. If it's huge, Star Citizen forgotten. Cool story none-the-less.
