Out of the Blue

There's A "90% Chance" Of The "Deadwood" Film - Dark Horizons (thanks Ant). As you may have observed, I still eagerly lap up every tidbit of news on this topic. It's been a long time to maintain this level of interest. Other such projects, like the Arrested Development revival, have failed to keep my attention by the time they eventually surfaced, but I think I will still be down for this whenever it finally gets around to happening.

I read that FOX had to choose between Dollhouse and Sarah Connor Chronicles for cancellation. They decided to axe SCC.

It's more complicated than that, and like many things, comes down to rights. Fox didn't own the rights to the show, so they were less interested in continuing to buy it. Warner Brothers owned the rights, but only to the characters exclusive to the show. They had their Terminator movie coming out around the same time, and just wanted to fund it long enough to create hype for that show. The company that owned the actual franchise went bankrupt and got bought by someone else, who didn't have much interest in a show that wasn't doing so well, anyway, and instead wanted a new trilogy.

The show wasn't doing well enough for anyone to fight for it when its ownership was spread across so many companies.

I finished watching The Sarah Connor Chronicles. While not a perfect show, it's good sci-fi, especially it's exploration of how an AI might develop. They went all in on the time-travel stuff, and it was a good way to both throw curveballs into the show.

The overall plot is strong. John has a nice arc: he really matures as a leader in season 2. That being said, some of my favorite episodes were "bottle" episodes, like Cameron's library episode. And the show went GoT before GoT: it has no problem killing off major characters.

It ends in a cliffhanger, but that's not a bad thing as they pretty much wrap up a bunch of things in S2 while introducing the S3 plot that was never made. While I wished the show had been able to continue, I wasn't disappointed where it ended.

Overall a recommended watch.

Huh, shouldn't "moon landing" be in scare quotes?

if there's one thing that will take a bite out of global warming and carbon output, it's fusion power. imagine how widespread nuclear power plants would be if they didn't produce cancerously radioactive waste. coal, natural gas, oil fired power plants would all be dead in the ground.

i know stabilizing the plasma has been a major hurdle for fusion projects for a long time; i truly hope this finally leads to a commercially viable fusion reactor sometime soon. we need it, a lot more than most people realize i think.

It would be a game changer, although not in time to prevent serious global warming and sea level rise.

Equalizer Part Deux scores higher than part one at cinemascore, A vs A-. Still a dvd viewing in my book.
