CD Projekt RED's Future Witcher Plans

An interview on Bankier.pl talks with Adam Kicinski in Polish about what the future holds for CD Projekt RED. He confirms for them the unsurprising news that this will involve a return to The Witcher franchise, their most successful offerings. But this may not be The Witcher 4, since The Witcher III represented a conclusion of the Geralt trilogy. Here's a machine translation of his remarks courtesy of VideoGamer:

"The first three Witchers were by definition a trilogy, so we simply could not name the next game The Witcher 4,' Kiciński replied. 'This does not mean, of course, that we will leave the world of The Witcher, created by us for over a dozen years. The Witcher is one of two franchises on which to build in the future activities of the company. Today, unfortunately, I can not reveal anything more."

Yep , easily go prequel trilogy before Geralt - like an Origins storyline of the Witchers' and make another few Billion $$'s

No thanks. Prequels are boring as fuck cuz you already know what happens afterwards. Yawn.

Sequels please. Start the new series with Geralt's funeral or something...

If I recall (and I may not), the whole deal with The Witcher 3 was the end of Witchers. All the schools were dead. The profession was dead.

While I could see a game where you're the last remaining Witcher, that was already kind of TW3. There are no new Witchers being made, or whatever the term was.

Personally, I'd prefer something around the start of Witchers, or mid-level. People can correct me, but it felt like they'd been around for centuries. Lots of room for prequels there. We know where the profession went and where those characters went, but don't know about the big battles or events from centuries prior.

Oh hell yeah. Conjunction of the spheres happened a *long* time before Geralt. Witchers are humanity's response to the Conjunction and magic users got their powers thanks to the Conjunction.

You could go all the way back to the beginning when the monsters were unknown spooky things and the witcher schools were just forming. You don't even have to stick to "witcher", you could tap a magic user for a protagonist.

I don't need more Ciri. I liked her but it's pretty obvious she's not a Witcher. She is, depending on your ending, a Monster Hunter, but not a Witcher.

I loved Ciri, but felt that her ending was unambiguous. Don't need to follow her more.

Yup. Just don't dive into things related to the events of The Witcher. No young Geralt. Go hundreds of years prior.

Otherwise, you have a Solo situation, where you're explaining things people felt are better left in their imagination.

Yeah, I was a little startled to read "the world of The Witcher, created by us for over a dozen years". Perhaps they've already forgotten that Sapkowski created the world.

Of course they haven't, but visually all of it is theirs, and they expanded MASSIVELY on the books and characters, so I don't feel it's too far-fetched for them to make a statement like that.

And if you like reading fantasy by all means read his Witcher books, they are wonderful.

Eh, they're okay. The short stories are good, but the big long story about Geralt and Ciri feels terribly meandering, with Geralt taking entire books trying to get to Nilfgaard to find Ciri, (while the reader already knows she isn't there) and Geralt for long stretches at a time being essentially whiny, unsure and really not very likeable. He is in no way the badass of the Witcher games.

I was disappointed in the books, though some storylines do pay off well (Ciri's especially.)

There's lots of room for prequels or serials. Hell, doesn't even have to be Geralt. It'd be interesting to expand to some of the other Witcher schools and/or Witchers. There's all manner of stuff they can do here. Just hope it doesn't take too long.

Normally I'm pessimistic when I hear a studio is cranking out a 4th installment, but all the witcher games have been good and 3 is in my top 5 best ever games.

Somewhere in Poland, Andrezj Sapkowski is still raging over the terms of the original Witcher licensing deal to CD Projekt RED.

Talk about a missed financial opportunity, almost Netflix trying to sell themselves to Blockbuster bad.
