Out of the Blue

It is amazing to see that the rest of those kids and their coach got rescued from that cave in Thailand. With how bad the news was at times, that they got everyone out seems like an actual miracle, and it's nice to have such genuinely uplifting news in these modern times. R.I.P. to the diver who died as part of the effort, I think it's fair to call him and all the other rescuers heroes. Sounds like this will all make a heck of a movie some day.

Yup. That's the plan. 500GB SSD coupled with a 1TB or greater 7200 platter. Apologies about not including a note about a secondary drive. Figured that was a given with 500GB.

All good.

4K 60+ FPS gaming here I come!
I'd save some money by getting a smaller M.2 drive (the 250 is 110) and use that money to buy the faster i7-8700k and complement it with faster memory. 500gb is not very big so I assume you are already using your older drives.

If you're going to be video editing, I can see the case for an i7, but all the reviews I remember reading showed no difference between an i7 and an i5 for gaming.
When you're spending this much money you want to get the most future proofness you can afford.
He has already specced an i7, why not get the fastest one they make for $50 bucks more. It will easily last 5 years and at $10 dollars a year it's practically free. Plus it's the k version which might extend its life even more if he won the silicon lottery.

+ Core i7-8700 - Precisely. I'm not upgrading to be at the curve. I want to be beyond the curve by at least a year or more.

+ Noctua - NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler - I bought it now to plan for later. It is rated as one of the best coolers for my budget and fits the new case. I don't know if Noctua intends to stop producing these coolers, but I wanted to be "K" ready for when I decide to go that route.

+ Vulcan 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory - I've always seen RAM as part of a greater whole. In a full system upgrade it's easier to go with "cheaper" RAM now and then upgrade to faster later.

+ Samsung - 970 Evo 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive - I do way more than gaming. 500 GB is more than enough for my needs. 250 GB wouldn't have worked.

I agree with going for the K variant, no reason to have the Noctua cooler if you're not going to overclock. An Extra ~$60 (including the faster memory) isn't much when you're already spending over $2k. I'd stay with the 500gb drive though, you'll probably want your games on there and a 256 drive will fill up fast. Looks like a sweet setup any way you cut it though
Hence my 500gb is not very big blurp. Install windows, program hogs like Adobe InDesign and the 4-6 games that benefit from M.2 NVME speeds on the 250, everything else goes on 2.5" sata ssd's and 7.2k spinners.

I have it all figured out, but I thank you both for the recommendations.

Even if money is no issue, 500 seems too tiny as your only storage.

Like Pigeon said, $83 for the cooler, overkill for no benefit. For a little more you can get a decent AIO that dumps hot air outside the case.

On this day, 6 years ago, Ouya launched on Kickstarter with a million dollar day.

Wonder whatever happened to Axis, who was convinced the Ouya would change the world. Some people hate the status quo so much they'll convince themselves even something obviously terrible is an improvement that will make history. See: the last election.

Also, are URL tags down? The above link is to a Bluesnews topic, but I couldn't post - it was telling me the word was too long.

It was simply common sense. Leaving them in there for several months simply wouldn't be tenable. I can understand kids being that stupid, but their coach? 'Hey kids, let's hike a few clicks into some deep dark dangerous caves that could flood at any time. Sounds good doesn't it? Some of you can't even swim? Oh I don't imagine it'll be a problem.'

He's either a literal moron or a pedo bear.

Yeah, I'm kind of done with this series. Looking forward to the new series done by the GoT folks (if that ever even gets made). Bewbs and lightsabers are a match made in the stars!

Yeah the first thing I thought of was basically "Oh hey look they found one more original trilogy character to kill off!"

I backed off my my opinion of TLJ for 6 months to let it settle and make up my mind and in retrospect... It killed Star Wars for me. Not necessarily for the reasons that everyone listed just... I am no longer invested in the story. The 2nd movie left the overall plot in a mess and I really just have no interest any more in it. None of the plot lines are anywhere near the point of resolution. It feels more like the first part of a trilogy than the second part. If they decide to do 4 or 5 ReyWars movies, then okay, the plot pacing will be... basically fine, but as a trilogy let's look at the stakes:

In the span of a few weeks (the time it took for the Rebels to pack up and abandon their base), the entire republic was destroyed completely thanks to Starkiller Base. The New Order supposedly conquered the galaxy in that time according to TLJ opening crawl. The entire resistance/rebels were wiped out down to about 10 people, the public face of whom, Leia, basically can't show up in the next film for obvious reasons. Snoke is dead. According to the novel, Rey basically can mind-rape Kylo Ren for Reasons and learn all his training.

Where we go from here? Who cares. Like seriously I don't care. The only character I was invested in was Finn, and with Phasma literally being the series Wile E Coyote (this is admitted by the writers) his plot arc was shot. I was ready for him to sacrifice himself, since his nemesis is Phasma and Phasma is a joke, Finn has nowhere to go now. He is excess baggage.

I had no idea he was hated by conservatives.

Also, I have heard nothing but wonderful things about his documentary. It currently sits at 99% on RT.

He was a principled man who actually lived what he preached, of course conservatives hated him.
