Into the Black

Link of the Day: Steam Account Data (thanks VentureBeat). Did you know Steam can tell you how much you've spent on the service? I'm at $681.33, which seems like a lot even before you account for the fact that I get game codes for free, too. But I'm just a piker. I bet there are some real eye-opening numbers out there.

$931.83

Surprisingly low. I suppose I haven't bought much in the last 5 or so years, but I have 200 games.

Eh? Are you saying your total could/should be more because you were buying deals or that the figure is some kind of total of MSRPs and not actual money spent?

The latter. I watched it once adding both a $1 bundle and a free game and it went up based on the MSRP.

Your total spent has always been available on your Account Details page. The two totals seem to differ though. The External Funds page says I've spent $1,024.33, but the Account Data shows 1,100.40. I think Account Data is including funds from items you've sold on the Steam Market. That would mean the difference is what I "earned" from selling crap on the Steam Market, but I doubt I've sold $76.07 worth of crap on the Steam Market. The Steam Market page usually shows how much you've spent and how much you've sold and a net spent total, but right now it's showing $0.00 for everything.

Alright, alright, you did it, so now it is my turn:

TotalSpend 2018-06-18 $4,471.82

Hm... Much less than I thought. Not sure this is right?

What is "OldSpend"? Do I have to add this to "TotalSpend"?

And Prez - it's your hobby. Other people buy Ferraris and Lamborghinis which lose a lot of worth within a pretty short amount of time. It is alright, buddy!

I have a friend with 13,900. I tried gifting him one, but finding a game he didn't own was a nightmare, and at least back then it ground to a halt when you tried to see all the games he owned to find the gap.

Over $3100 across 11 years for me. I installed steam when it first came out (2004?) but I didn't like it back then. I think I waited until the id Anthology came out to fully install/use it.

This number doesn't seem that bad until I realized that I've only bought maybe a dozen games in the past few years on steam. The majority of these purchases were probably done in a 6-8 year period. I'd wager that generally I bought a game a month for quite a while until about 2 years I stopped finding game that met my old geezer's idea of worth my money. (get off my lawn)

6 years after I created my account would have been 2012 which is fairly close to the last time I bought a lot of games. Ends up being something like $30-$40 a month. Yea... glad I don't do that anymore.

$3,318.78 over 10 years for me. That really doesn't seem too bad at all. $27.65/month for my favorite hobby. I usually buy 2-3 PC games at full price every year and get everything else on sale. About 90% of my purchases are on Steam but GOG has been getting my business more lately. There are certainly more expensive hobbies one could have.

But I am not convinced the number is accurate, for one I never paid in $, for 2 I am in EU1 so the price can't be in $ (so it's likely wrong) and 3 I bought nearly all big games externally where I don't have to pay the 20% EU1 extra

$3,883.74

Which considering it's my second account (first account was only halflife orange box), 10 years of service and only 3884$ is pretty good.

520$ canadian a year.. I spend more than that per month on utilties lol.

$5,733.85

Damn. I did not think it was anywhere near that! Most of the time I buy games only on sale, and big sales too. Only very special games get bought at full price.

My profile says 539 games owned and I'm at 14 years of service.

I think I might have a problem.
