Out of the Blue

I've written in the past about our affection in the BlueTower for subversive sitcoms, as well as our ensuing sadness upon the cancellation of shows like Better Off Ted and Arrested Development. I figured I'd avoid placing my jinx on The Mick by keeping mum about the new Kaitlin Olson vehicle, but there's no fooling the reaper, and this has now been cancelled as well. It was a strange show for both its seasons, but loads of fun, and definitely a little edgy. Oh well, time to start hunting for another two- or three-season wonder to hit with the Malocchio.

Cursed Links: Thanks Ant.

Ex-Chipotle manager, accused of swiping $626, awarded $8 million. Thanks Neutronbeam.
Science: 'Lost' asteroid the size of the Statue of Liberty to buzz by Earth Tuesday.
This amazing fabric can change its color on demand.
Media: Bohemian Rhapsody - Teaser Trailer.

I tried to convince my wife to name our son Ukon***.
She wasn't having any of it.
So you settled on Expedition for your boy and Escalade for your daughter. The only thing weird/sad is that would make both their initials E.D. (assuming of course you last name is Dreyer) and the kids would tirelessly tease them with erectile dysfunction jokes.

Not Escalade, Escapade!

Nice try guys, but no.

Funny though we did settle on names that start with 'e':

Elrohir and Eowyn.

His last name is actually Cornelius. His son was to become the greatest bumble hunter this side of the Mississippi. Sadly his wife ended such dreams before they even had a chance.

That's an insane payday for being fired - accused - of petty theft. Only in America. Still, nice to see the little guy win one for once.

I don't really know how Chipotle thought that was going to go down without the alleged surveillance video. Sure you had video proof, Chipotle. And probably the location of Saddam Hussein's WMDs, and the flight recorder from MH370, too. Plus the only other person who saw the money contradicts your claim on the stand? Is it that they wanted to lose?

The cops can get away with destroying, planting and lying about evidence. A restaurant chain, not so much.

I'm guessing this is some sort of commentary on some part of popular culture which I have apparently totally missed out on (probably thankfully)....

The top 20 boys names of 2014 and/or 2015 included Aiden, Brayden, Jayden, & Caden.

Nothing like trying to give your kid a unique name by following the same naming scheme as several million other people. I'm sure there's a broader cultural commentary in there about trying to stand out by following the crowd.

My coworkers son is Brayden. He's 5. And a bunch of my son's classmates are Brayden, like 3 I think. It's an epidemic.

You should try "Love" on Netflix. It sounds like it would check most of your boxes, including an untimely demise after the just released third and final season.

I also can't believe how funny The Good Place is. Honestly, that sounds like your cup of tea.

I agree about The Good Place. "It's delightful". If you've got Netflix, you've got access to Season One. Also, two episodes of season two got nominated for, of all things, Hugo awards in Best Dramatic Presentation - Short Form. (Black Mirror, Dr. Who and ST:D are the other nominees).

A follow-up article at the source link says that Chipotle moved for a confidential settlement instead of going to appeal or paying the awards or punitive damages:

On the subject of TV shows, I've begun to divorce myself from watching TV. Not from any stupid hipster ideology but because every show I have truly liked in the past decade has been cancelled. What's the point of investing time and energy in to a show if it is never resolved?
