Quake Champions Adding Bots and More Gore

A new video about Quake Champions talks with id Software technical director John Dean about plans to add bots to Quake Champions (thanks PCGamesN). John discusses what these will add to the multiplayer shooter, saying they will be transparent to users, who should not be able to identify them as AI. He discusses the kind of abilities they will display, and how this will scale down for games at lower difficulty levels. For more on the game, there is also this tweet from Quake Champions with a video showing off a new gore system, as they further refine the ability to return your opponents into their component parts.

So they've finally confirmed bots, but still won't say whether they'll allow offline games against them? That makes me worried that they're not really thinking this through (which, surprise, seems to fit the theme of the whole game).

One of the biggest uses and draws for fighting against bots was for practice, in which there are no other human players. So unless they allow a custom game with just you and bots, they're kind of missing the point.

(I know this isn't the only use for bots, but it's definitely a big one.)

I was a huge Quake fan, but they seem to want to stick to their guns in making this one unappealing. This was a big feature I was waiting for, so I guess we'll see how it turns out.

Oh, and proper modding/mapping support would still be nice (not that snap-map nonsense).

Start an online game. Password protect it. Don't give the PW to anyone. Populate it with bots. Voila!

LOL forgot about how chatty those bots in Q3A were. I remember playing against them in Team Arena a lot, as nobody really played that much.

Quake Champions Adding Bots and More Gore

It's not "gore," it's "gibs."

Why would you not want them to be identified as bots? Are they trying to make it seem like more people are playing? Seems to me they're just begging for loads of false cheater reports when standard bot behavior is taken for aim hacks...
