Stellaris: Distant Stars Announced

Paradox Interactive announces Distant Stars, a new content pack coming soon to Stellaris, the 4X space strategy game for Windows, Linux, and macOS. This reveal trailer shows off what they are calling a "discovery-themed" pack that will involve new anomalies, storylines, and aliens, which is already available for preorder. Here's word:
Paradox Interactive, a publisher and developer of gateway games to whole new universes, today announced that Distant Stars, a new Story Pack for Stellaris, will soon be available to transport you to uncharted solar systems straight from your Windows, Mac, or Linux PCs. For the suggested retail price of 9.99 USD, Distant Stars will add new content and features to Stellaris including a sealed jump lane in the gateway network leading to a mysterious sector entirely outside known space, but players must be quick as the mightiest empires of the galaxy are all racing to find the secret to unlock it. Pre-order Distant Stars today here: https://pdxint.at/2HBZLcw.

Distant Stars is a new Story Pack for Stellaris, the sci-fi grand strategy game from Paradox Development Studio. In this new discovery-themed pack, players will uncover new anomalies and storylines, and encounter strange new beings in the uncharted depths of space. Featuring new surprises that may help or harm ambitious explorers, the new Distant Stars DLC will include:

  • Behind Closed Doors: Discover hidden traces of an ancient gateway network unlocking a sealed path to a constellation outside our own galaxy. But is this door holding something out, or keeping something in?
  • Sensors are Picking up… That Can’t be Right: Encounter dozens of new anomalies and events for your intrepid scientists to observe and analyze, and a galaxy of wonders for them to discover.
  • Brave New Worlds: Plot unexplored unique solar systems, each with their own story to tell. Gain technology, resources, and valuable worlds to colonize.
  • There’s Always a Bigger Fish: Come face to face with a number of unique gargantuan creatures that exist and thrive in the vacuum of space. But approach with caution, because whether gentle giants or something more sinister, these legendary behemoths have existed long before you and will do what it takes to survive long after.

They'll keep making them as long as we keep buying them. It's almost become a subscription model.

Yeah, I got no problems with this whatsoever. They keep adding substantial expansions to their game for pretty decent prices. Nobody is forcing you to buy them.

Only thing is that every time I'm about to start playing, they're like "hey, we're releasing this in 3 weeks" and then I wait 3 weeks again!

Better than loot boxes and MTs. Honest content for honest money.

Unlike these other cynics, I'm happy they're making more content. Stellaris feels like it could be a really good game but it's still missing a little something. I'd like it better if these packs were free but well, like the Rolling Stones song says, you can't always get what you want.

I'm not sure how much more content can be crammed into one game.
I'm all for more events and stuff, but espionage abilities would be a good start... better battle resolution and interface for sure... better research tree management, better pirate mechanics, etc.

Stellaris is still incredibly boring, imo. I have put in 50 hours and the game really drags in spots and some stuff just feels under developed. I prefer Distant Worlds far more than Stellaris, but I'm open minded and will keep at Stellaris... one of these DLC will eventually make the game fun.

Man I tried to like Distant Worlds but I can't read the interface on my monitor. The text is too small. And I can't seem to find anything that will actually scale it.

Has anyone experienced the same thing?
That's probably the game's biggest complaint. I don't have any issues, but I do have to squint to read some things with my 20/20 vision. I believe the Bacon Mod changes the font to make it more readable, but that is not an easy mod to install. I'm sure Distant Worlds 2 will fix this problem.

Yea, I felt the same way, its a fun game at times, but yea, drags on and on. I tried playing this Coop wit ha friend. this is where to many of us that games flawed. if you want to allied with some one from the start of the game. You have to figure out where they are and try and travel to them to get a dialog going and then ally yourself. that was dreadfully crappy.

They need to make the game so its easily done with a friend from the start where you are allied and can see each other.

I really prefer how Sins of the Solar Empires plays compared to this. Its such a shame that StarDock hasn't seen the viability of Sins and what it really could evolve into . To me, Sins is till the best Real time strategy space game out there. But Stellaris does fill some of that void.

It really annoys me to no end that Stardock is sitting on this game. So much potential for part 2 just going to waste.

This announcement is really tone deaf in light of the current state of the game. 2.0.3 broke many mechanics in the game so they rolled back to 2.0.2 but that didn't resolve all of the introduced bugs. 2.0.4 is due "some time soon" yet they're not being especially forthcoming as to when "some time soon" is. Just that it is in beta.

Stellaris needs to focus more on what it did recently with the space travel. I find node travel to lead to extremely MEH games in mid-game. Because the game spawns "counter" races (counter to your ideology) next to you, at least 2 guaranteed, it's nearly always a rush into war. And I find that super annoying. I haven't seen a federation since those changes happened.

I use Stellaris as my "filler" game between games.

Currently, the biggest issue with the game is the AI is completely retarded at managing planet resources and get stuck in these weird "build tons of food" loops.

They really need to fix this.

A dev chat on the expansion talked about changing up how anomalies are researched. Rather than having the anomaly level act as a restriction on who could research an anomaly, the scientist level would impact how long it took to research the anomaly. I think that's a better approach to researching anomalies.
