Battlefield 1 Rupture Map Freed; Shock Operations Plans

Battlefield 1 should grab their trusses, as Electronic Arts announces the Rupture is now available, offering all players access to this map in the military shooter. They provide details about this as well as plans to release a new mode called Shock Operations in June that will provide all players access to Premium Pass maps. Here's word:
Today, all players that own Battlefield 1 can jump into Rupture for free, which is a map featured in Battlefield 1 They Shall Not Pass, set during the Second Battle of the Marne and characterized by its poppies growing over rusty wrecks. In addition, the next few months will bring even more free content to all Battlefield 1 players including Soissons in May, also from Battlefield 1 They Shall Not Pass, to tackle one of the biggest tank assaults of World War I.

In June, bit-sized epicness is coming to Battlefield 1 in a new mode, Shock Operations. The mode supports 40 players and sees attackers and defenders battling over sectors like in fan-favorite Operations mode, but with the action focused to one single map - ideal for those that don’t have time for a full Operations match. Shock Operations will be available on five maps: Giant’s Shadow, Prise de Tahure, Lupkow Pass, Zeebrugge, and River Somme. Most of these maps are normally only available to owners of Battlefield 1 Premium Pass or standalone expansion packs. However, base game owners will be able to access them too when playing Shock Operations.

The problem is that official servers run all maps in rotation, crashing "non season pass players" violently out of the game randomly, and that is also why I quit playing BF1.

Compared to BF4 it's inferior in every way.

Ps.: This is the real reason

Exactly, the tail-end of these releases are dismal. Because 90% of people who will buy a season pass probably do it in the first few months, and then there's no real continuing revenue stream after 6 months from launch.

I will say though, BF4's Naval DLC expansion fucking killed me. It was set it a tropical paradise with hovercrafts, heli's jets, and fucking AIRCRAFT CARRIERS. With a full hommage to the "Titan" game mode from 2142 in it. And guess what? 2 months after that DLC came out you LITERALLY couldn't find populated servers playing ANY of the maps from that DLC (on PC at least). That shit enraged me to no end. The players didn't even have enough time to figure out how to properly PTFO in that "titan" mode with teh carriers before the numbers dropped to 0. SO AGGRAVATING.

Yeah, if you wanted to play any non-standard conquest or rush game-mode you had a problem in BF4 even before it went free. Though you can still find many servers even today, most of them won't have the naval dlc support activated though since server would be dead if it switched to that non conquest game-mode

I remember these issues going back all the way to Battlefield Bad Company 2 even, with the vietnam expansion pack. They absolutely murder their games by segregating the playerbase like this, and is one of the core reasons I have not bought a battlefield game since 3. You will download all of this wholesome expansion goodness, whether you own it or not, but you can only unlock it by purchasing season passes and other fuckery. No thanks.

It actually goes back to Battlefield 2 where they first started doing this nonsense which is even sadder... EA never learns apparently. After BF1 I am honestly done with Battlefield as a whole I think. I didn't buy season pass for either BF4 nor BF1, and I skipped Hardline already. BC2 was the same shit as well, as you say...

With every expansion they split a community in X parts and then wonder why their player numbers dwindle.

AHMEN to NO more season passes that split the community further & further apart.... it is so stupid for a MP game to have maps that not everyone can play .

Looks like they're shifting further and further away from a season pass...

I've always said that the season pass model is the worst thing for these AAA games. maybe 15-20% of people buy it, so the servers are empty soon after each DLC pack in released, just segments the community. It's like a dumb gamer tax.

If they totally get rid of it for Battlefield V I'll be soooo happy, cosmetics only would be the best thing to happen to this studio, and the AAA industry. Give us all the post-launch game content for free, keep the servers full for longer, dont' split the playerbase, and pay for it all with cosmetics. I'm so down with that.

If 1 in 5 people buys a $50 season pass, then you only need the average player to spend $10 in skins across the lifetime of the game to break even, and they'll probably go higher than that.
