System Shock Source Code Released

Reddit has word that the source code for the PowerMac version of the original System Shock is now available to the public on GitHub as an official GPL release (thanks Ant). As with other similar releases, this covers code, but not art and other game assets, which are still covered by the original EULA for the action/RPG. One of the comments in that thread indicates there will be more to follow, saying, "It's the original, unaltered version which we released for historical/preservation purposes. We will be releasing an updated version in the near future." There is also an explanation of why they chose to release the PowerMac version: "It's the only version we could find, but I was told the DOS code is hidden in there :D" Word is this will need a PowerPC or an emulator to make use of this:
You will need a PowerPC to build the Mac version of System Shock. Fortunately, there are emulators out there that are able to run PowerPC Mac Applications, like SheepShaver. You also need Metrowerks CodeWarrior 10 Tools to build the project and Stuffit Expander to unpack the project files and source code. The game was initially built with an older version of CodeWarrior, but we tested it with CW 10 Gold Tools (IDE 1.7) and it was able to build a working executable.
