In the fall of 1993 Cyan released Myst, the surrealist, graphic adventure video game that became the world of millions of explorers. It surpassed even our wildest expectations. Not only did it become the best selling PC game of the 20th century, but it also had an impact on our culture. Over the years, Myst has been referenced in television shows, movies, books, comics, and more. It has been credited by other creators as an inspiration as they built their own amazing worlds. It’s even made it’s way into the Smithsonian Institute and other notable museums.
With 2018 marking the 25th anniversary of Myst, Cyan would like to celebrate this journey.
Over the last few years we’ve been working to procure the rights to make all of the Myst games available. As an indie developer, resources are limited for development, and acquiring rights isn’t always an option. But we managed to finally talk to all the right people and departments and put some funding together to try to make it happen. With agreements in place, we’re happy to announce that we’ll be releasing updated (for Windows 10) versions of all the Myst games later this year!
And for those of you who are interested, we wanted to create a physical collection in a unique package with a cool artifact — a limited, collectors edition, only available for the 25th anniversary. Stay tuned.
There will probably be more adventures in the Myst universe, but we’re reserving 2018 for remembering our journey, and making something special to commemorate the last 25 years.
Thanks so much for your support!

Unless I am blind I see no mention there for Myst 1, Myst 2 and Riven..... I am asking because I have the (DVD) in my drive, it's a German anniversary edition by Cyan games and it got no loose files, it got all 3 Myst games and Riven on a DVD with installers as cab/exe combo and autostart launcher with menu to install things etc.
This version was fixed to run in Windows XP natively btw. For Myst 1 that was even back then extremely wonky (256 colors only)
I don't know about the German version, but I've got the US anniversary edition and it has all the files required on it.
You can find which files are required from the disc here:
Myst
http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Datafiles#Myst
Riven
http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Datafiles#Riven:_The_Sequel_to_Myst
BTW Riven is Myst 2
Mhh, then I seem to be out of luck ;/ Honestly can't remember where I got this disc from though, I think from some polish store or something, does look very pretty ^^. Maybe a black market copy because it sure doesn't say anniversary, it says compilation....? Wouldn't that be something, either way can't do anything, all I got is 3 setup.exe and 3 cabs, and the various IS files with the old install shield icon and a white exe (non supported 16bit). I only faintly remember there being a launcher and it fixing the horrendous load times for Myst 1 which was why I kept the thing around.
I guess I need to google fu a old cab unpacker... sigh. But once I figure this out your links will be very helpful, thanks for that.
Honestly how the heavens did you find that on that site though? I must be failing at navigating websites today because I couldn't find this list and I actually looked. Oh well, I blame my old age
Ps.: In German it's Myst 2: Riven, so you guys confused me But I think that's the same thing they did with the first Anno game, which confuses me to this day as I own them on uPlay and physical, so they have 2 different names and not even saves sync up. Bought this compilation on a poland trip and near the border they always sold games cheap (that was before the €)

Actually thanks to ResidualVM, Exile works great on modern systems
http://www.residualvm.org/compatibility/DEV/myst3/
Same goes for Myst and Riven in ScummVM
https://www.scummvm.org/compatibility/DEV/riven/
They work like a charm.
You can't install the games anymore, the installers are not 32bit, so no, it doesn't work "like a charm" Unless you know a way around this with original CDs
Example;3.1. How do I install games to run in ResidualVM?Looks pretty damn simple.
For most games you do not need to run the installer. Simply copy the files listed here from your CD to your hard drive.
Thanks Overmann!

I did play the original Myst but never really got far. I should probably try it again seeing how much time I spent on "The Witness".

Don't worry; I've never played any of them either. I think I was playing the Gabriel Knight and Zork adventure games instead.
Nope, I haven't played it, either. I used to own it...or, well, my sister did. She was more on adventure games during the early-mid 90's. I remember when I got my IBM PS/1 486SX/25 for X-mas in '92, she went with me a few months later and we got Alone in the Dark thinking it'd be some kind of spooky puzzle adventure game, like a moving Myst. Although she didn't care for it, I really liked it. I could never actually get anywhere in it but it ran well on my system and looked and sounded creepy. Then she grabbed Myst sometime later on and I think I loaded it up and was immediately asleep, drooling.
I never got around to asking her how far she got into it, though I know she did play it quite a bit for a while and the cd was almost always in her drive, even into the early '00s. Guess I'll never know. *shrugs*

Creston wrote on Mar 17, 2018, 22:14:Not at all. Was a simpler time, and at the time it was amazing graphics (didn't it have video sequences?), showcasing the new CD format and how much one could store, instead of floppy disks. Games at the time maxed at like 30 megs from 10 disks, and bang all of a sudden you could put 650 megs on a CD.Not only did it become the best selling PC game of the 20th century
Jesus fucking Christ, how sad is that.

Almost all the Myst games already run fine on Win10x64 (GOG), but a few, like Riven need a bit of configuring--and a couple, like Exile--won't run on modern Windows no matter what you do with them. Should be interesting.
