Out of the Blue

Tonight is the Oscars, where the Hollywood elite find out if all the training they did for the competition will pay off. I have seen exactly one nominee, which seems about par for the course for me, since I see most movies at home. So if I was the typical voter, Get Out would win in every category it's nominated in, and the other categories would go un-awarded. I guess that's why I'm not a member of the academy. I still do have a rooting interest, however, as I'd be happy to see Allison Janney, Sam Rockwell, and Frances McDormand take home trophies just because they are all personal favorites of mine.

And Sam Rockwell won!, Three Billboards is a great dark comedy even thought it's labeled Drama/Crime.

I was expecting a mother's crusade for justice. Not quite! It's very Cohen Brothersy.

Saint Trump wants to take guns without due process, ban violent video games, and be president for life.
If President Obama had dreamt any of those things he would have been lynched before waking.
But that President for Life thing can't be that bad, it works in Russia and China. THANKS GOP!!!

And Sam Rockwell won!, Three Billboards is a great dark comedy even thought it's labeled Drama/Crime.

Both Mother! and Lady Bird were enjoyable.
The Apes movie was meh, same for Dunkirk and Blade Runner did not hold a candle to the original.

A bunch of the Oscar movies are on Amazon Prime streaming. I saw Shape of Water and Lady Bird up there last night.

Also love me some Sam Rockwell. Hoping he wins too.

You're in luck.

Three Billboards has a hell of a cast.

It's getting old Cuts.

I understand that cutter is an angry old white man and that's ok, but to be blind, clueless and incognizant of oneself all at the same time is unforgivable.

Fuck the Oscars and their PC bullshit. Rewarding a bunch of rich assholes for doing their fucking jobs. I will never understand why people think so highly of them or why they feel they need 50 million award ceremonies a year. The fucking egos on those people.

But Cutter, how else would they be able to simultaneously tell us that we shouldn't rape and women are powerful and women need to be protected and if you have a penis you should feel bad because
privilege?!?!? \= | Oh yeah, and there were some movies or some shit out this year...

I mean, that's not what they say, but knowing how insecure you are, I get why you hear that.

Oscars 2018, celebrating amazing performances and artistry in the movie industry...

meanwhile the only thing people want to watch are super hero movies and annual Star Wars flicks.

From the article on Roger Bannister:
“It’s amazing that more people have climbed Mount Everest than have broken the 4-minute mile,” Bannister said in an interview with The Associated Press in 2012.
Is that accurate? My gut reaction is it can't be. The mile is a uncommon event these days, replaced by the 1500 km event. But I thought top college runners were doing sub 4 minute miles for years.. am I wrong?
If Roger Bannister said it then it's the GOSPEL.
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=8702672
And I think you mean the 1500 m or the 1.5km.
Ain't no one running the 932 miles.

On a totally separate subject -- I watched Alien: Covent this morning -- recorded off a movie channel. I was expecting it to be bad. It wasn't great, but it actually wasn't quite as bad as I expected. I imagine the general idea really rubbed some people the wrong way, be *meh* -- whatever.

Could have been worse, and I have recently seen other films I thought were worse.. one being All The Real Girls which was a movie without any ending. It was like they were filming it sequentially, ran out of money and said, "I guess that's the end."

Truth is brutal. Prepare for pain.
