The Division Celebrates 20M Players

Ubisoft announces over 20 million players have now played The Division, offering an infographic with various factoids and milestones for their open-world shooter and its audience that's twice the population of Sweden. The say they plan to celebrate the milestone with a month's worth of special activities:
It's been two years since the launch of The Division brought players into a New York City ravaged by a deadly pandemic to seek out answers and assert control over the lawless streets of this iconic city. Since launch, over 20 million players worldwide have answered the call, taking up the mantle of a recently activated Civilian Agent and exploring all that The Division has to offer. Now, to thank players for their support and celebrate the two-year anniversary, the development team is planning a month of in-game activities including four Global Events (one per week from March 1 through March 29). Global Events are a live feature in Tom Clancy's the Division that alter the game experience by adding modifiers to all in-game activities while granting participating players a chance for special cosmetic and gameplay rewards.

From the record-breaking pre-launch beta to the Underground, Survival, and Last Stand expansions to the nine major free updates, The Division has continued to evolve and entice new fans into its ranks. "We are very proud of what we have achieved during these past 2 years. Listening and giving back to the community has always been our first objective and we would like to thank all The Division players for their valuable feedback and their support," said Julian Gerighty, Creative Director.

I initially liked the SP part of the game when it came out, but they screwed everything up so bad for the first year after release that I never bothered to go back. Still can't bring myself to get back into it. Mostly the missions were terrible. Always exactly the same. Just a bunch of bullet sponge guys to kill wave after wave of. They really needed to add some random branches and events to the missions to keep them more fresh.

The Dark Zone was a mess of hackers and griefers, and while it could be fun for a little while, you'd eventually run into those guys and then it would suck. The level ranges for the zones were too wide as well, as you could end up against people with FAR better gear who would annihilate you in seconds. Oh, and gear balance was shit too.

Overall, they did a shit job on the game with everything but the visuals, and then they spent the next couple of years trying to fix it all, and basically getting it to where it should have been at release.
