Out of the Blue

As usual, I have been paying so little attention to Olympics news that while I knew the games were near, I was not aware they were starting yesterday. And as usual, in spite of how indifferent to it all I believe I am, I ended up watching some already. And that included ice skating, so I think I'm going to have to stop pretending to myself that I hate the games so much.

Are you fucking kidding me? Yeah, I forgot the police and military use pigs because they're so much better than dogs. It's really amazing to see a pig scale a 10 foot wall. Oh wait! And shepherds use pigs as well. Oh wait! And cows aren't plow animals. Some oxen are but so are horses and they have other uses that oxen don't. You can't even compare these animals in how some are far more indispensable to man as working companions vs what others provide in terms of food or resources to be used. So no, it's not just fucking picking on some and giving others a pass. Jesus, the outright stupidity of some of you is fucking mind boggling sometimes. Try actually THINKING for once.

How about you stop being a goddamn hypocrite and an idiot for once, since the only one who is consistently spouting off on stupid and batshit insane crazy shit is you.

You have little knowledge, less experience, and hate having your preconceived notions challenged more than anyone else. Explains so that, really.

What are you afraid of?

Pigs are used to guard border towns in Israel. They are more effective than dogs due to Muslims viewing them as unclean.

Pigs are trained to find weapons and explosives in Tasmania. Pigs are superior because their sense of smell is better than dogs.

They're used to herd sheep in Australia.

They find truffles in France.

And of course millions of people have them as pets.

Pigs can do sniffing jobs, not assault jobs. They've hunted for truffles for hundreds of years. And you're the one who said "intelligence," which is where they shine.

I don't even understand your argument about cows. Oxen are male cattle. They're the same animal. You say a horse has more uses so it's okay to eat the cows, but the logical rejoinder is that people have more uses than any animal, which is why it's okay to eat everything but other people.

And there are plenty of non-working dog breeds. For that matter you can just eat the ones that aren't working, the way you eat the chickens that aren't laying eggs, the sheep that you aren't raising for wool, the cattle that aren't pulling plows.

Relative intelligence and worth? A cow doesn't do anything except stand around and eat. Same with sheep, goats, etc. Dogs aren't just loyal companions, they work as well. Same with horses. So yeah, there are plenty of valid reasons why some animals are considered little more than food or for other uses and others are not. But it's like Jules said, "Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy motherfucker."

Except for all the examples of cows solving problems and working together.

Pigs are even worse. They're a lot like dogs. They're also plenty affectionate.

I'm going to have a huge, super expensive steak from L'Atelier tonight. But I'm not going to deceive myself and say there's something lesser about cows than animals we won't eat.

I think that's somewhat dubious reasoning. If you count a horse as a working animal then cows and goats can pull things, too. Guard geese have been a thing going back to antiquity. Outside of the primates and cetaceans it doesn't seem like there's that much difference in intelligence between the food and non-food mammals. Pigs are about as smart as dogs and can do many of the same jobs.

I think the unspoken rule is "don't eat the cute ones," but the reason it's unspoken is because everyone knows it's dumb.

I've never understood the arbitrary nature of which animals are okay to eat and which ones aren't. Given that animals as low as fruit flies exhibit personality traits, you would think that anything higher would either be on or off the menu as a group. Including Solyent Green.
