Far Cry Season Pass Details

Ubisoft announces details about the season pass for Far Cry 5, giving details on three surreal DLC packs this will bring, as Far Cry 3 Classic Edition, a remastered version of the single-player content in that installment in the shooter series. They accompany the information with a new trailer highlighting the Far Cry 5 story and an announcement trailer for the Far Cry 3 Classic Edition. The Classic Edition will also be a standalone release this summer, but the version that comes with a season pass will precede it by four weeks. Here's word on the surprising settings of the game's DLC:
Far Cry 5 will take you to the Montanan wilderness of Hope County, where The Project at Eden's Gate cult is preparing for the end of the world, reaping souls through questionable and often violent means. But your Far Cry 5 journey doesn't end there (nor does it stay on the same planet, for that matter).

The Far Cry 5 Season Pass includes three new adventures that transport you to three distinct locations, starting with Vietnam, where you battle the Việt Cộng in Hours of Darkness. That's followed by Dead Living Zombies, which as its title suggests, pits you against zombie hordes in a variety of B-movie scenarios. Finally, in Lost on Mars, you'll leave Earth behind to battle arachnids on the Martian surface.

If you prefer familiar surroundings, Far Cry 3 Classic Edition (single-player content only) is also included in the season pass, and will be available four weeks prior to it going on sale as a standalone purchase this summer on PS4 and Xbox One. Visit (or revisit) the Rook Islands and come face-to-face with Vaas, one of gaming's most notorious villains, played by Michael Mando. Don't fret, PC Players, as you will also receive the full version of Far Cry 3 when you purchase the season pass or gold edition of Far Cry 5.

Stay tuned for more on Far Cry 5's post-release content plans, including more details on the three separate adventures and the map editor. Far Cry 5 is scheduled for release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 27.

"Where are the lootboxes?"

Really?

They're advertising a paid season pass before the game has even launched. If it had lootboxes, the comparison would be that all this DLC content would be free.

I can understand liking one model above the other, but I'll never understand this blind devotion to this industry-standard season pass shit that makes getting the full content of any AAA game a $100+ proposition. And the co-op will split the playerbase too. Nice.

Especially advertising the season pass BEFORE THE GAME HAS LAUNCHED. WTF.

Yeah, including fucking FC3 in their season pass is like a creative declaration of bankruptcy.

I'm generally about as anti-season pass as it gets but if you gotta have a season pass then why not, you know, expand on the game it is related to? What a concept!
Exactly. The people most likely to buy the season pass are those who have played the previous games, making it utterly redundant. Perhaps if it was heavily enhanced and included substantial new content it could be somewhat understandable but Far Cry 3 is hardly that old and the engine holds up well. I'd be more interested in the original Far Cry and Far Cry 2 being remastered, as they're quite a bit older now.

Season passes are just being just to pad out preorder sales. They're not about improving the game. They're just about cashing in on the initial buzz and excitement. The price of the FC5 Season Pass is ludicrous and the content woefully lacking.

PS - Did anyone check out the specs for running it at 4K? It lists GTX 1080 in SLI or Vega 56 in Crossfire. Pretty extreme.

I'm generally about as anti-season pass as it gets but if you gotta have a season pass then why not, you know, expand on the game it is related to? What a concept!

So they don't have more FC5-themed stories to tell in and around Montana? No ideas how to explore (add depth) to a loose story thread or an interesting character (or two) of the base game?

With the inclusion of FC3, they are really admitting here up front that they suck ass and that the season pass is one of the shittiest value propositions ever.

It also does not bode well for the quality/quantity of the three DLC packs.
The mere fact that they seem to feel like they must include something on top of those three DLCs is telling us that they know exactly that season pass owners would be pissed if they only got those three apparently very meager DLCs... which are probably already finished or why else would they throw in FC3?
They already know exactly that those three DLCs are very short and mostly crap. Count on it.

"We see how much you guys love remakes of stuff, so now we're just going to turn them into DLCs! Oh, and not actually remake anything, just re-release it. As DLC!"

The only thing missing is lootboxes.

Of course there is a season pass! Why would there not be a season pass! Where are the loot boxes?

I'll pick it up in a few years I'm sure... Makes me kinda want to play through 3 or 4 again... or Primal... Or maybe just Horizon heh...

The Story trailer had surprisingly bad graphics though... Which is confusing.

I read all the comments before I watched the story trailer. At first I was thinking the same thing about the graphics and agreeing. I then reloaded the video, paused it, and then played.

Not sure if the problem of buffering was on my end (I have charter cable 100/5 so wouldn't surprise me) or if youtube was a little overloaded and having buffering issues. Once the video fully buffered it cleared up significantly and looked much better.

The character models still look a lot like all the ones from previous games. I'm guessing any graphical improvements will be environmental along with game play.

I loved that crazy Blood Dragon DLC that Far Cry 3 got, so this sounds exciting. I skipped FC4 and Primal so the main game will be less repetitive for me as well.

That wasn't DLC. It was a separate game. Same engine, many same assets, incredibly stripped down version of same game play, eye searing pallette. Man, I hated it. Maybe had I not finished FC3, but it was so repetitive afterwards.

The Far Cry games are repetitive and grindy, yes, but I love them nevertheless. The atmosphere, the surroundings, some of the characters - there is something about this that just thrills me. I am looking forward to buying Far Cry 5 GOTY in 2 years or so, I still have to play Far Cry: Primal.
