Ghost Recon Wildlands Loot Crate Plans

This FAQ from last week reveals plans to bring Battle Crates to Ghost Recon Wildlands, as Ubisoft seeks to get in on some of that sweet, sweet internet hate that surrounds such features (thanks VideoGamer). Here's the plan to bring randomized loot to the shooter:
Coming with the next Ghost Recon Wildlands update, Extended Ops, we will be introducing Battle Crates that are designed to offer you an additionnal and accessible way to complete your cosmetic customization experience, for both the Campaign and Ghost War modes. The Extended Ops update will be released for free before the end of the month for all platforms. Stay tuned for more details about the content of the update coming soon.

Throughout the development of the Battle Crates, we made sure the implementation is fair in terms of the items given to players, while also ensuring that they have zero impact on gameplay and player’s progression. Below you will find an F.A.Q. that will further detail the new store implementation.

How to get Battle Crates
All players will receive a gifted Spec Ops Crate and a gifted Ghost War Crate, which are redeemable on the Ubisoft Club. Battle Crates can then be purchased from the Store for 400 Store Credits, with each Battle Crate containing three items that you do not already own.

Battle Crates Content
Battle Crate is the name of a collection of crates specifically designed for the Campaign and co-op mode (Spec Ops Crate) as well as for the Ghost War mode (Ghost War Crate). Spec Ops Crates contain Epic Weapons, Exotic Weapons, Vehicles and tons of cosmetic items for you to enjoy even more in the whole Campaign mode.

Ghost War Crates contain Exotic Weapons (re-skinned versions of weapons already available in the game – no impact on the weapon stats), customization items and an exclusive new line of skins for your character, called Icons.

Overall, all the cosmetic items you get can be used in both the Campaign and Ghost War modes. More than 200 items are available through the Battle Crates experience. All the items are also purchasable in the store through the various pack offers, except for the Icon skins that are exclusive to the Ghost War Crates.

Remember to read carefully:
Spec Ops Crates contain Epic Weapons, Exotic Weapons, Vehicles and tons of cosmetic items for you to enjoy even more in the whole Campaign mode.
So, while not P2W so much, but it's still pay to get better gear in co-op mode.

The internet resulted in an explosion of stupid, crass, racist, hate speech, and fake news.

The mass marketing to all the below average intelligence and juvenile console and pc players is netting this large scale fleecing via grind or pay and flat out pay and maybe get something.

Yep... increasingly "winning" at a game means having the coolest looking shit. In multiplayer games you don't have to worry about adding some expensive and potentially game-altering new content that will scare players off when you can just crack the whip on your artists to make new skins.

So in a sense, cosmetic becomes pay-to-win when the metagame changes to be a relatively flat progression curve that relies on cosmetics and the related peer pressure to keep people playing.

This existed even back in the early days of graphical online games. In EverQuest it was nice to have better gear for the stats, but what people really wanted was to look fucking badass while they were selling their wares at the EC Tunnel or GFay. (Well as badass as you could look with those shitty graphics and limited equipment models)
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

Makes me glad I never bought this game. The usual excuse for "loot crates" has been "it's expensive to develop a game!". They are pretty revolting in games that don't charge for extra content, like Overwatch, but this game charges you for everything AND now they're throwing in gambling boxes just to make some extra change. It's just the usual greedy fuckery we should pretty much come to expect from all "AAA" publishers now.

There's just no place in this game for these... Yes, probably one of the lesser-intrusive ones, but just having them dangling there is bad enough. Plus you can't even earn them in-game, at all. There is no way to earn in-game credits (the paid "currency") either.

The main campaign has gotten no love outside of the DLCs, and the CMs kept saying "we have something big planned for the end of december for PVE!" which ended up being a very basic Predator event, with 99% of the cool stuff locked behind a $20 pay wall.

Community asked for a lot of minor features, only one of which is finally coming to fruition, without warning, which is Fallen Ghosts DLC in the main campaign. So I dunno.. pretty irritating devs.

I think a big way of reducing this sort of scheisse would be for the government to mandate that the prices for these things have to be listed in dollars and cents, no "credits" or whatever they want to call it to disguise the fact that you're spending real money. It's no different from casinos where you have to use their tokens or pay cards. Anything to keep from reminding you you're spending actual real money.

It's more than that, currently any game with a virtual currency exchange can get away with all sorts of bullshit and not be held responsible since you're not buying crates with your money, you're buying space bucks. It doesn't matter how screwed you got when you spent those space bucks, whether by design or in error, you're not entitled to a refund because you got exactly what you paid for when you spent the real money. That's the foundation of the app store business for Google and Apple.

Right, so individually take charge. If you don't like, either don't play the game at all or don't buy into them. Is that really a hard realistic alternative to accomplish?

They won't do that, because then it would effectively be gambling.

You give me $3.25, and you get a randomized chance to "win" one of these items. Couple that with the market on these items can get insane, with rare items going for hundreds of dollars, and you'd have state agencies from commerce to law enforcement looking to either classify it as gambling and stop it outright, or tax it into oblivion.
