Out of the Blue

We're getting some snow this morning, a pretty steady downfall, but nothing too dramatic. I'm actually a little pleased by this, because while I continue to resist the easy solution of a snow blower, I recently upgraded my shovel. This bad-boy has a much wider blade than the old one, with taller side walls and a general funnel shape. This makes it pretty efficient, though there's the potential to get enough snow in there to make it impossible to lift, so I'm looking forward to testing it out. Here's hoping my back is a strong as this shovel.

Same thing for me. Though, I was raised "Christian" but I never really spent a lot of time thinking about it. Once I was old enough to give a shit, I was quick to realize that even if one of the religions of the world was the "right" one, how could I know which one that was?

Anyway, religion is fading away, particularly in the West. Just look at how much it has eroded in the last 100 years. There are more atheists than ever before. The people who aren't atheists are less devout and often don't even attend services. Some people are only religious in that they claim a religion, but don't make any real efforts to practice. I.e. Christians who don't pray regularly, read the Bible, or attend church. (The majority of Christians.)

And even among the devout, scripture has been reinterpreted, or straight up ignored, to be more marketable to the public. So being devout isn't even what it used to be.

That being said, KX is a super-positive, kind person, and I imagine that part of that is being a JW.

More likely in spite of being a JW. It is a doomsday cult, after all, that believes horrific suffering is coming to all non-believers, and soon.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

Yep. That's essentially the age and thought process I experienced.

He might be a positive and kind person. This says nothing about religion.

I'll agree with this. Unfortunately, as long as people are willing to do that, religions are pointless. When people stop doing evil things religions will be seen as the unnecessary delusions they are by everyone, instead of just the rational.

It can and will.

You shouldn't confuse what people have done in the name of religion with Religion itself. They are not mutually inclusive.

Religion is defined merely as "a particular system of faith and worship." If people want to use "religion" for selfish and destructive means, this doesn't change the essence of what religion is. I liken the definition of religion to an atom. By themselves, particles are peaceful objects. However, when humans split them for selfish and destructive means, this did not change the essence of what atoms are.

Unfortunately, our history is rife with people who have done all kinds of evil things in that name of religion to the point where people see all religions as evil. This mindset is not by accident, but by design.

Sadly, you have adopted a repeated posture of umbrage. Rather than dignify ANY points from Bible - a book respected by the vast majority of humanity (even many atheists) - you attack wholesale for having the gall to present evidence from.

In other words, I am not the closed-minded person here.

P.S. no reply?

What astounds me is how control of the US Federal government has essentially been centered around race politics since the Civil War. I'm wondering how many centuries will have to pass before that's no longer true?

The Bible states as long as humanity remains as-is it won't happen under present conditions.

Luke 4:5,6 - conveys ownership
1 John 5:19 - and why, what you ask for, is not possible

However, it states what you're looking for will be achieved with a radical new system of things, under a brand-new political structure.

2 Peter 3:13 - broadly stated
Rev 21:1-4 - more details
Psalms 37:10,11,29 - a lot more detail

New California declares independence from California in statehood bid.

Dumb. It looks like a gerrymandered district. California's power comes not only from its size, but also from it's symbiotic relationship between the urban and the rural. This gives it the ability to effect change at the national level, as many laws that CA makes are subsequently adopted or become defacto law in other states. Break it up, and that power is diminished.

Also, those rural counties depend on the revenue generated by the cities to fund their infrastructure.

just more ignorant alt-rightism masquerading as social justice. the fair way to split the state is north/south, but these idiots want to split it almost exactly on political lines - the urbanized coast is highly democratic while the rural inland is highly republican.

another thing that shouldn't be ignored is that these yokels want to give (i'm guesstimating) 85% of the land to (also guesstimating) 20% of the population. naked republican greed at its finest. all their complaints are ridiculous because california ranks middle of the pack in standard of living; far from the actual shithole that is most of the rural red states these idiots dream of being. this is nothing but a bunch of right-wingnuts who've lost all national perspective and cant stand the idea of democrats telling them what to do even though they benefit immensely from our government. just... the shameless greed and narcissism kills me, to complain about living here like it's some kind of hell when that's pretty much the opposite of the truth. and then to use that as an excuse to steal all the land. soulless fucks.

Sent an FOIA request to the USPS to find out which businesses own specific bulk mail permits numbers. Once I find out I'll share with you guys, in case you wish to take action.

I am thinking of assembling a "lo-fi" site for the public to help create a database of permit numbers with businesses so that people can be empowered to reach out to these companies.

This is one of those bluffs that would, in some ways, be worth calling...just for the poetic justice of the way the seceding parts would become the new rival to Alabama and Mississippi. It'd be interesting to see how fast it happens.
