No, you've walloped me too many times about my comments, and I've left it alone (primarily because it's impossible to reason with an unreasonable person). Not this time. You're not going explain away yourself with, "I was just joking" or "it's just an expression." You were wrong, and I called you on it. So man up about it.

TL;DR Hyperboles are for amateurs.
Your right, you win (besides you get one win a year and I'm feeling generous).
Happy New Year

All the nominations and awards for Divinity: Original Sin 2 happened months after its September 14, 2017 release.
I think the phrasing was at issue in your original post, and still to an extent in this one. Crowdfunding isn't a release model, it's a funding one, so when you said "crowdfunded, EA or unreleased" shouldn't get a nomination, I think that's where the issue was for me. If you're saying just "unfinished games" shouldn't be nominated, I agree.

I agree that they are funding sources. However, to clarify, I group crowdfunded, EA, and unreleased together because they mean the same thing: unfinished, unreleased, and non-Gold products. As I see it once a game goes live, then the funding source becomes irrelevant, because consumers are now the funding source.

MacLeod wrote on Dec 31, 2017, 20:34:
The only argument that can kind of be made for PUBG was that release date was already set at that point, and it was pretty much feature-complete for launch - the play mechanics weren't going to change in the couple weeks between awards and launch.

I still don't want an unreleased product winning big awards. Case in point, you will never see awards for "pretty much feature-complete" un-released movies, books, cars, and so forth. Awards are the ultimate recognition of completed work and a game like PUBG, that has won awards, can alter their work at will, effectively nullifying the award. Or worse they could outright abandon the work leaving their award-winning product in an unfinished state. On merit alone, an unreleased game should never compete against games that have gone gold and are out in the wild for all to see and judge.

Does this make sense?

Hope I'm not talking past you.

Not sure why this debate is even occurring anyway since PUBG went 1.0 in December, making it a 2017 game anyway. Unless the argument is "early access is always evil" which, like any extreme position of that sort, is silly. Could it lead to more early access games? Sure, but what's wrong with that? Some of the best PC games of the last few years were early access games it seems like.

P.S. I'd say the same for "DLC." Back in the day they were expansions and there were good ones and bad ones. Once the concept of smaller ones delivered digitally was sorted out and played with it became like any other thing, some are good and some are bad.

P.P.S. This anti-extreme positions thing kind of applies to everything in life, honestly.

I've played every single AC game that came to PC. I hated all of them. Black Flag too and almost all Ubisoft games that I for some reason own some bought some for free. (I hated) Watch Dogs, Watch Dogs 2 was OK but still only got about 10 hours in before brain went numb, Wildlands, FarCry 4, FarCry Primal, The Division, Tom Clancy's Siege. All of em shite that bored my pants off to pornhub.

New AC is good and gets a pass because the mechanics and world are so well done. It's completely not replayable like other good AAA openworld games like W3 & GTAV, but that's fine, I'm eating it up - If W3 is like the fast food at Five Guys, AC:O is like an In & Out where Divinity Original Sin 2 is like eating the best realest real 5 star $300 luxury burger one can get but it's too soon to replay it.

The changes to AC:O weren't really incremental at all. They completely overhauled the melee combat system, added versatile ranged combat, added a loot system and RPG mechanics like levels for both the players and enemies, etc. AC:O is the first entry since AC2 to make fundamental changes to the game's core systems and mechanics.

PUBG is driven entirely by hype. I'll be happy when it falls off the list. No EARLY ACCESS / CROWDFUNDED / UNFINISHED title should have those kinds of numbers; especially above proven titles like GTA5, CS:GO, DS3, W3, and ACO.

Was that sarcasm? If not, it's just hit 1.0 and isn't early access anymore.

I didn't list the games...they were brought up by someone else, I was simply pointing out that they all had issues. And yes, I own all of those titles. GTAV and ACO are just extensions of a successful franchise...incremental improvements with most of the new releases. You're right about GTAV, 'janky' wasn't fair. The controls have come a long way and it's actually pretty smooth. ACO...meh...incremental improvements across the board, but it really did seem to be more of the same at the end of the day....but that's just a matter of taste. One of my kids goes nuts for every new AC release.

At the end of the day, it was just to address the silly moniker of 'proven titles' that 'deserve' sales figures or somesuch nonesense. Most of those 'proven titles' have their own issues.
And 'earned' is just that...whether it made the sale.

Reread comment #14. Nowhere in that comment did I ever mention DOS2 specifically or even hint at it. You jumped to a conclusion that wasn't there in the first place.

You guys should stop. What you're thinking is crossing into incomprehensibility.

You stated that crowdfunded games should not be nominated for awards. Divinity: Original Sin 2 was a crowdfunded game. For some reason you seem to think that "crowdfunded" and "early access" are synonyms when they really aren't.

Remember when that game Doom was topping the list in 2016? Well, you know those shifty Gen-Xers and their ADD. Spiked at 40k a year ago and is around 3k players a day now...

Day-Z....never broke 30k players in a day. Never. Total owners below 4 million.

PUBG...500k+ every single day for the last 5 months. For the last two months between 2.5 and 3 million players per day. Total owners over 25 million.

But you're right...they're both the exact same and flashes in the pan. It'll last another week...tops. Just step outside the the cheaters/bugs/EA/crates echo chamber and you might be surprised. PUBG is to battle royale what Quake was to competitive FPS in the 90's. It is the most refined product in the genre. Will it reign as long? Probably not...because the modern game industry moves a lot faster.

GTAV - microtransactions...janky controls...same old same old...albeit supposedly great writing.
CS:GO - OK to cite if used against another game, the king of top 10's...but if anyone mentions it alone, we're supposed to howl about cheaters and crates
DS3 - still not as good as DS, but better than DS2 or DeS. Very limited target market. has had massive hacking and balance issues
W3 - Dogshit janky controls on release...should have been called beta or EA. First patch brought controls to AAA release quality....from a proven studio... again, since it is the prom queen, we're not allowed to mention that she had chlamydia until she got dosed.
ACO - ...rinse repeat. Recycled experience that people keep coming back for.

Some of you guys are amusing. If you don't like it or you see millennials playing it...it must be simplistic trash in a shiny wrapper and further bolstering your self worth as a 1337 old skool gamer. Same has been said about MOBAs by many of you. Oddly, they're still generating tens of millions of dollars and pulling the largest views of video game competitions. Again, I'm sure I'm not patient enough waiting years for it to flare out and die like some keep saying.

Jesus fucking Christ I miss the days when everyone looked down on gamers as useless geeks. At least we tended to band together somewhat and respect the fact that the erudites enjoyed King's Quest and the mouthbreathers played Wolfenstein 3D. But it didn't matter because we were still happy to see something new on a floppy....

So of the games you listed did you play any of them? You're off the mark on GTAV and ACO.

Now, even if that was the case, I probably would have asked to pull it from contention, just because I'd have rather waited for the 2018 awards and had another year of polish before voting (especially considering how well it's selling, it's not like it's going to be forgotten by next year)... but then you'd have to be concerned whether or not you were eligible since the game launched in December the previous year. But that's a whole other discussion on how they run gaming awards.
