BattlEye Bans a Boatload in PUBG

BattlEye tweets that an eye-opening number of players have been banned from PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS by their anti-cheating service (thanks MP1ST). People must really like chicken dinner by the number of them willing to flout the rules to get one. Word is:

Update on the number of PUBG bans: 1,500,000.

Not gonna dispute that there are cheaters, but my group regularly gets to the top 3, if not wins (squads) and we haven't seen an obvious cheater since Miramar came out. Maybe different in solos though, I suppose. Used to be more common before the more recent major patches. Replays REALLY help dispute questionable deaths.

Bring on the TenCent integration for China...

Got killed by a hacker in the very next game after reading this.

At this point I have to assume that cheat banning is just a money making racket by the developers. Ban, sell another copy, ban, sell another copy.

It worked for Valve...

And this is the reply from anyone who got killed by a 'cheater' and their decapitated corpse was not delivered to them in less than 5 seconds.

Banning does absolutely NOTHING to deter cheaters. These aren't people whose Steam accounts are threatened, they are Chinese farming points to sell cosmetic items, it's their job. Getting an account banned slows them down for 2 seconds before they're back at it. Developers know this, they aren't stupid. Yet banning for cheating, instead of preventing cheats, is their preferred method of "dealing with the problem." Hard to argue with 1.5 million new sales every ban wave.

You know, they could just reverse all trades these banned accounts did and that would insta ruin these chinese farmers due to charge-backs. But that would cost them money, banning them earns them money.

Seams like a developer supported money laundering racket to me.

That's clearly the motivation here. They could stop it all kinds of ways if they were so inclined.

yeah my boss at work said the same thing. a lot of the cheaters aren't even interested in playing the game - they just wanna farm points to buy items to sell for real money. winning and losing and your enjoyment mean nothing to them.

I'm guessing most of those bans are from pirated versions of the game?

1.5 million banned for cheating, yet when you mention it on any PUBG forum, the replies are all: "I've played 500 hours and have never seen a hacker, get gud."
