PUBG Looks to Rebound from Rubber Banding

This Steam post has details on PC 1.0 update #1 for PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS, which is now live in the battle royale shooter. Changes include a new balanced map-selection ratio, a change to replays to prevent using them to cheat, and a bunch of bug fixes. This also has some fixes for intermittent lag issues that have plagued some players, but they say a combination of issues contributes to occasional rubber-banding, and that clearing up this issue further remains a top priority. Here's word:
Before we dive into the patch notes, we would like to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the intermittent lag and character position readjustment issues our players are experiencing during matches. Creating a smooth playing environment to allow our players to fully enjoy Battle Royale was one of our top priorities for PC 1.0 launch. However, a multitude of causes have triggered the in-game lag issue to become worse or happen more frequently in the last few weeks. In the process, we were not able to implement the measures to visibly address the issue more quickly.

Contrary to most expectations, there is a combination of causes that lead to the in-game lag and character position readjustment issues. The issues cannot be attributed to one or two causes and have stemmed from a combination of different factors which is why we need to continuously work on resolving and investigating the problem. We upgraded our game engine to the latest version and made changes to the game when we added new content. The problem resulted from these changes as well as several other causes.

In this patch, we have removed some inefficiencies in server infrastructure and optimized in-game servers to alleviate the problem. More specifically, we made adjustments to reduce the bottleneck during the game server launch phase and also resolved some server hitch issues.

Resolving the intermittent lag and character position readjustment issues are still one of our top priorities, and we are continuing to work on analyzing and fixing any remaining issues every day. After today’s update, we will be running some internal tests and deploying more updates to gradually mitigate the problem. We are currently examining several measures including server optimization and server logic modification to address the multitude of causes. On top of this, we will continue our efforts to further investigate remaining causes.

We will keep you updated on our progress going forward. We would like to apologize again for the inconvenience and we will continue to do our best to resolve the issues.

If you are clicking things to pick them up, you are doing it wrong. TAB drag loot.

Yup same. I apparently played 6 games on AS servers before I realized it. Even after moving it, I have to make sure it is NA, as every restart of the program it goes back to AS? odd.

I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

I don't know of this rubber-banding you speak of...

"we would like to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the intermittent lag and character position readjustment issues our players are experiencing"

Sounds more like an issue of character position readjustment.

The funniest thing is that the last time I experienced rubber banding was in a laggy server in RTCW: Enemy Territory. Then PUBG came along. That glorified DAY-Z game with infinite fame and, by now, budget.

I got the game as a gift on xbox one for Christmas. Ive tried to play the game 5 times. Of those 5 games 4 crashed to xbox desktop about 5 minutes in. The one game that didn't was a nearly unplayable laggy mess. where you have to click like 5 times to pick up an object or open a door.

I have not tried to play it since. I don't have time for that kind of crap.

Anti cheat should be #1-#10 top priority. It is worse now than it ever has been.

I just got this with my Christmas Steam cards and have only played maybe 12 rounds. One round was questionable how accurate the guy was firing on full auto, but game mechanics may explain it. One round was straight up no doubt cheating. Death cam showed him killing the guy I was shooting at and then me with headshots while not even aiming at us.

Other than that and the weird thing were it always wants to put me in asian servers, it seems fun. So far my best has only been 13th place, though. (My fault, I thought I killed a guy that was trying to ambush me, but it turns out it was a sniper who then shot me when I ran out of the building to take a quick look for a better weapon.)

If they had a Comp USA store nearby they could have just stopped over and picked one up off the shelf.
Maybe CIG and PUBG can share the cost of a Netcode.

How many Netcodes will it take to fix it?
From other posters it looks like one Netcode handles 50 players just fine but it fails when you double the number of players. So simple math tells us that they need twice the number of Netcodes. Either that or buy an upgraded version.

I think thats where they got it from in the first place.
It was fine with 50 players in the alpha, but instantly, in the beta, after increasing to 100 players, it went belly up and only bandaids were implemented since then to hide the utter crap it is.

They got the wrong one, they should have chosen the other box right next to it, that one works better.

Sounds like they need to go back to 50 players.

Adjusted replay system so that players can only view game replays from 3 minutes after death.
This is to prevent sharing opponent’s positions to surviving teammates immediately after death.

Uh, this is only in duo and team matches right? Kinda shit in solo play if that's not the case.

Wait, what? They allowed Kill Cam in team games?! That is a dead obvious thing NOT to do, these developers are facepalm.

I hope you're right though, I enjoy watching it in solo games in order to A. See what went wrong, or B. Admire my opponent outplaying me.

The replays are the only thing that was limited, no telling if the 3 minute thing applies to solo.. but that shouldn't matter at all. Death cam (AKA Kill cam) is available instantly in solo, and only available in Duos/Squads when EVERYBODY on the team dies, and not before..

Despite the net code and various little things, gotta give them credit for fixing a lot of players' grievances in a very timely fashion. The devs are clearly not the best, but they've accomplished a lot in the last 6 months. Massive performance gains (~100% increased FPS for me), vaulting, a new map, improved UI, death cams, and replays... The replay feature alone is just fantastic.
