Out of the Blue

Today is the second day of Christmas, so be sure to collect your turtle doves and your second partridge. Hope everyone had a safe and happy Christmas, whether or not you were actually celebrating the occasion. Speaking of occasions, today has to be one of the most holiday-filled days of the year, as it is Boxing Day, the first day of Kwanzaa, the commemoration of my namesake saint, and well over a dozen other days of note in various places around the world. Here's a list we cribbed from Wikipedia if you're looking for more excuses to celebrate:

  • Boxing Day
    • Day of Good Will (South Africa and Namibia)
    • Family Day (Vanuatu)
    • Thanksgiving (Solomon Islands)
  • Christian feast day:
    • Abadiu of Antinoe (Coptic Church)
    • Earliest day on which Feast of the Holy Family can fall, celebrated on Sunday after Christmas or 30 if Christmas falls on a Sunday.
    • James the Just (Eastern Orthodox Church)
    • Stephen (Western Church)
    • Synaxis of the Theotokos (Eastern Orthodox Church)
    • December 26 (Eastern Orthodox liturgics)
  • Independence and Unity Day (Slovenia)
  • Mauro Hamza Day (Houston, Texas)
  • Mummer's Day (Padstow, Cornwall)
  • St. Stephen's Day (public holiday in Alsace, Austria, Catalonia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovakia and Switzerland), and its related observances:
    • Father's Day (Bulgaria)
  • The first day of Kwanzaa, celebrated until January 1 (United States)
  • The first day of Junkanoo street parade, the second day is on the New Year's Day (The Bahamas)
  • The second day of the Twelve Days of Christmas (Western Christianity)
    • Second day of Christmas (public holiday in the Netherlands, and Poland)
  • Wren Day (Ireland and the Isle of Man)

oh no, yucky girls are getting in our clubhouse and ruining star wars for white dudes, who star wars is supposed to be for!

i saw TLJ opening night and was kind of indifferent but the caterwauling it's provoked in "real star wars fans" has been highly entertaining.

I'm a real star wars fan and found it to be a pretty good and entertaining movie.
But I don't enjoy the caterwauling, I think it's indicative of the larger trend of the internet turning into a shittier and shittier place.

I agree, it's especially heart warming seeing all these "fans" on youtube making millions of "The Last Jedi sucked" video blogs. So much for the fake news story that all the negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are from Russian bots. The only thing that really maters is how much money it makes and from the looks of things it's only going to fall short by one billion from The Force Awakens.

Star Wars
What a sloppy miss cast PC mess...has a SW movie ever failed so badly in making you feel like you travelled the galaxies.
Bloated side quests just jump around there is no feeling of distance travelled. The main quest is just plain stalled. blah

The Force Awakens dazzled people with Star Warsish imagery and memberberries, The Last Jedi just wants to burn everything down to the ground, everything had to be a "gotcha" moment. Maybe for the next one JJ can pull the old "it was just a dream" Jedi mind trick.

It doesn't bode well for their Solo movie, if that turns out to be another bad Star Wars movie I don't think they'll be selling many tickets to their theme park attractions. Just think of the money Disney has riding on this franchise, from the merchandise to the theme park. You would think they could have afforded to have a focus group of select Star Wars fans dissect their plans. Sounds like their focus group consisted of a bunch of women who didn't have a clue about Star Wars.

Probably just a massive blank spot between when she went into the coma and waking up, or one ongoing nightmare. Medically induced comas aside I wouldn't want to exist in a vegetative state for years on end.

Yeah, it makes getting up to use the restroom a challenge for sure.

Wow, that woman in a coma got a sleeping pill (ambien) and woke up. http://researchandhope.com/zolpidem/

So, if you're in a coma, and you take a sleeping pill, when it wears off, you wake up? Who knew?

This article linked in the comments discusses the subject some, quite odd.

A clear case of excessive force. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave with pay.
