PUBG Launches

The countdown is up, and PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS version 1.0 is now officially available on Steam following an extremely successful early access run that saw this battle royale game sell more than 20 million copies and set records for concurrent users on Steam. This Steam post covers the release, revealing a special "winner winner, chicken dinner" in-game t-shirt all players will get for free for logging in over the next few weeks. They say balancing and polishing the game will continue past this point, and talk about other improvements coming to the game:

We’ve implemented two waves of adjustments to deal with server stability issues since PC 1.0 test build #3 hit our test servers. We estimate that there was around 50% decrease in stability issues experiences by players. However, we understand that this is not enough. We have identified various causes for the stability issues and are expecting progressive improvements going forward.

As we announced earlier, we are considering limiting maximum ping depending on user network status in order to establish a smooth gameplay environment and enhance server stability. Before applying the measure to all regions, we will need to fully investigate its feasibility and analyze the outcome, so we will be running a limited test. After implementation, players with a high ping difference from average ping range for the region or players connecting over long distance will not be able to connect to a match. As a result, only players in a certain ping range would be able to enjoy the game together in the same server which leads to a more stable and smooth environment. We will keep you updated on our progress as we continue looking into this method and analyzing our results.

We’ve strengthened cheat prevention measures and continue to reinforce them. We’ve also implemented various automatic and manual anti-cheat measures and thanks to all these actions have seen an estimated reduction of 65.7% in the number of players trying to use cheats. We are also continuing to actively remove banned players from our leaderboards. No online multiplayer game can remove all cheaters but we will continue to direct our best efforts towards reducing the number of cheaters as much as possible and maintaining a fair play environment.

Well if the spammers are going to resurrect this thread...

Got my first solo win on the new map.
Followed up four horrific die-on-first-encounter runs with a dominating trek using a Scar, silencer, and 4x... it's all you really need.

Didn't realize this as it happened, but last night I won a solo game the exact same way... Scar, silencer, and 4x ... also after a few horrific die on first encounter games again.

Yep, all about those silencers! Even if people are close enough to hear it, much harder for them to work out where you are.

Of course, if I get a fully kitted M416 or Scar with silencer I can guarantee I will very soon do something stupid and get unceremoniously executed.

I watched some live streaming a few days ago from IGN. It looked really boring. But all of these survival type of games come off that way to me anyway.

I'd much rather play Arma 3.

I don't list this under a traditional survivalist game, more death-match to me. But it is like a runaway success, so it is well loved enough.

I really enjoy this game, but have yet to cotton to the new map. It is also weighted at the moment so you are much more likely to play it than the original. That being said, I have been using it to do something I never did enough of with the original map- dropping in highly populated areas and trying to survive with ~8+ people very close to you.

Finally got to play some. Menu loading is still jacked, loading into game is still jacked as well. Stats aren't loading until several minutes in the menu, so I assume the stat servers is getting hammered.

The game is better with 1.0 in every sense. Gunplay is way better, game runs smooth (over 100 frames the whole game), looks great, they tweaked vehicles, motorcycles aren't so fragile, etc.

I am impressed. This is the best the game has been. Hand rubber banding the first 30 seconds of the game, but I typically don't land with other people to fight right away, so zero problem for me.

Not a fan of the loadout or menus. Not sure why they changed them so drastically.

The new map and update are really running way better than before.
My roommate and I have nearly 20 fps increase and things just feel smoother in general.
Vaulting is a huge game change too.

Fired it up this AM - started a game, intentionally did not play BETA so I could play the new map with the update.

Join a game, gets stuck at title screen, but I can hear people talking and the plane in the background. ALT-F4, went and got something to eat. Came back, figured I would try it again as I read they were having lots of issues with the 1.0 servers.

Get to title screen, says game is still in progress!? hahaha figured my AFK ass would be dead instantly. I load up the game, I am near the southern coast all by myself. I run and find some ok loot right away. 25 left! I run my tail off, stay on the blue line, find some houses that have not been looted, weird. End up getting a few kills along the way and get 2nd level gear.

Do the belly crawl near last few circles since I don't have a sight, just a couple ACOGs. Grabbed a silenced ump off some dude I killed.

Ended up with 3 kills and 2nd place. Circle favored the other guy, he had a rock. gg. This is why the game is awesome.

It isn't a twitch game. You can be tactical.

Yep! Game is great in spite of it's issues. On twitch I watch Notthatwillsmith because like me he is a terrible shot/twitch gamer, who misses pickups on the ground because he is probably legally blind, but has an awesome winrate with his buddies because he makes good tactical decisions. And because there is no crafting/building, tactical decisions is all you make. (Basic stuff from Arma like how to use terrain will keep you alive a lot of the time).

It's the same as the Arma experience, 20 minutes of looting/walking with a chance of a surprise violent end except much less of a pain to set up and replay.

There was a problem with the leaderboards, so I got to rank 29 last night in OCE duo due to the actual good people not having their shit recorded for a few hours. I'll enjoy that and the sick new replay feature showing how awesome/lucky we were while I settle back down to my natural spot a few tens of thousands positions lower...

Game is much better optimised now. Had a few games without lag at the start, and a few with that still wasn't as bad as the test server lag. I'm sure they will work it out eventually.

Yea I actually spent more time in the replay than the actual match .a hahahhaha I like to see how other people move around and why they do what they do. So interesting.

It's definitely weird.. it's so popular because there's nothing else like it (besides Fortnite, which has its own issues.. mostly being a cartoony mess - and the ARMA 3 mod), yet people put up with some pretty insane issues.

I will say I haven't seen an obvious cheater in the past week, which is a plus. Was super common before. Probably just lucky.

Will be even better when the Chinese are segregated instead of lagging around in other servers.

Sounds like you probably were an easy target for tobacco companies. “This thing is awful, and has literally no upside to it, but do it enough and you won’t be able to go without it!” “OK!”

That's a really absurd analogy.

My point is more along the lines of: Don't judge a book by it's cover, 1st impressions aren't everything, Try it before you knock it, etc.

It's not the most concurrently played online game of all time because it sucks. Perhaps you simply can't see what others do.

My first impression of this game was terrible, I refunded it within an hour.

I'm still not exactly sure why, probably because I figured I was missing something, I decided to buy it again for another shot. For the first 50-100 hours, I still hated it. I didn't like the mechanics, kept dying to what I thought was bs, couldn't understand why I wasn't good at it, etc.

1,000 hours later, it's my 3rd most played game on Steam, and I love it.

I think that says more about you than him... = \

Haven't played it (I'm getting old enough that my Quake 1 era reflexes are well and truly starting to fall to pieces) but I get the excitement of the concept. M&B:Warband is a game with bugs, crappy graphics, AI issues etc that I sank over 1000 hours in to because once I got past all the things that pissed me off, I found a challenging game that I really enjoyed. It's subjective, so there's really no wrong answers here, and if someone gets over a thousand hours of enjoyment out of a title it seems like the bang for buck ratio is pretty damn good.

It's a social game to play with your l33t buddies.
Thats probably why. There arent many alternatives. Sure you can buy ArmA 3 and play it there, but ArmA 3 has its own problems. H1Z1 is sucked dry and most people hated it, but still played it, because there wasnt an alternative. Fortnite is very different again. Many people dont like the cartooney style and building aspect.

And its not only us criticizing it. Look on the Steam forums and other forums. A lot of people know how badly done this game is.
If the game wouldnt have had that much success, I am sure they would be heard much more. But vocal critics always are a minority. Even on really bad games.

Waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.
