I'm a fan of PUBG, has pretty much been my exclusive game for most of this year. That being said...Playerunknown is an idiot. Almost everything I see him say in an interview is completely wrong, even if it's about PUBG itself. I think he originally had a good idea "Battle Royale gameplay", pitched it to people much smarter and more creative than him, and took a step into the background as these people made the genre what it is today. He's just a figurehead, nothing more. And not a particularly bright one at that.

True dat
The game only needs "better protection" from one thing, and it's the same thing that all on-line multiplayer games need.
Have you guessed what it is yet, if you said hacks or cheats you're winner.

PubG creator says "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH"

You sold 25 million copies. Shut the fuck up.

"Look at movies, Armageddon came out then 20 other comet disaster films came soon after," Brendan Greene explains.

Errr, Deep Impact came out, followed by Armageddon a few months later. They were both in production at the same time, two teams having come up with the same idea after a news cycle in which we all worried about some giant asteroid killing us all.

That was pretty much the end of it. But nice example there, buddy.

I take it you're not aware the guy actually MADE the Battle Royale theme. So he has some legitimacy here. Even so, he still just comes off as a whiner.

Battle Royale is a Japanese movie.

It's the movie that "Hunger Games" was based on.

PUBG ripped the same movie.

Well Creston most assuredly never has seen that movie or read mangas where this idea dates back at least 30 years, or read the Hunger games books for that matter...

If done, the fact is pretty obvious that PUBG just hit gold out of pure luck. The idea was not new, though nobody had focused an entire game on it quite so well. It was the perfect moment too, the engine was just then available for him to make that. 5 years earlier and you'd have had no cheap engine that could have pulled this off.

It's actually an interesting phenomenon. If you look at most wealthy and/or successful people, pure luck is responsible for the overwhelming majority of them. If one minor thing hadn't gone their way, none of it would have come to fruition.

One thing we can all agree on is that nothing is "new" and it's all a mixture of previous stuff.

Except that Suzanne Collins has gone on record to say she never actually had heard of the book or seen the movie before she wrote the first novel. It was brought to her attention after she turned in the manuscript, and she says when she asked if she should look into them, they told her not to and to finish her series first. She maintains that she still has never read the book or seen the movie.

When I was a kid I read a book about a boy who was told he was a wizard and moved into the wizard school to learn magic. It featured almost everything from the first Harry Potter novel, and was written 20 years prior.

Almost any idea you can come up with has been thought of by someone else, it is impossible to get away from. This is why PU is wrong on this subject.

It's not luck or a phenomenon. There is no such thing as luck or coincidences (your last statement actually hints at this). These are terms thrown around by those who can not see the big picture. Everything happens for a reason. There is no luck or chance.

As far as this pubg creator goes, this guy is a complete douche. Complaining about copycats while he ripped off, pretty blatantly, a movie and all kinds of things.

If games got better protection from copycats, PUBG wouldn't exist since id Software would have a monopoly on FPS games.

In games, buddy. In games. He made the first Battle Royale mod.

Otherwise we can keep drawing everything back until we end up at the Odyssey every single time.

Novel came a year earlier. Of course Minecraft had the mode before even DayZ, but if people want to argue that DayZ was the first truly in that style (or first "shooter" as such) then they'd still be wrong as Brendan Greene (PU) was not the guy who made the Arma 2 mod, it was Dean Hall. The Battle Royale mod/variant of that was indeed made by PU - who at the time admitted he was directly influenced by the movie. So we're gone full circle as he leveraged not one but two properties he had nothing to do with...so apparently combining two original ideas into one does not qualify as copying.

"In movies and music there is IP protection and you can really look after your work. In gaming that doesn't exist yet, and it's something that should be looked into.

Wow, this guy is so stupid it's literally painful to read. He's a classic example of the adage it's better to be lucky than smart because he just dumb as a sack full of hammers. Nevermind the fact he's never spoken to a lawyer or business manager to understand why "style" can't be protected - and shouldn't be. He's never picked up a history book either. Battle Royales - grand melees - have been around forever. They have literally been around since pre-recorded history. The phrase "battle royale" itself was first cited in the fucking 1600s.

Please, stop posting any news related to this moron because I actually feel dumber every time I hear that clown open his stupid mouth. If you give that asshole money you're an even bigger asshole.
