Out of the Blue

It's been a delight making friends with our neighbors and their little twins. The parents, the kids and their doggie are all our buddies now, and our lives are the richer for it. I'm beginning to realize that my immune system may not be lucking out the same way, though. I started suffering a bit of a stuffy nose last night, and have a sore throat this morning, which is almost exactly one month after my previous mild cold. I may be wrong blaming this on the kids, but I've gone years between colds lately, and almost never get them back-to-back like this, so there's a temptation to correlate this with the cliché that youngsters going back and forth to preschool are little germ factories. Even if that's the case I'll gladly put up with this, but hopefully I won't be catching a cold per month from now on. Or maybe I just have the Man Flu?

During the conversation, I said something like, "So all life lives in a three-dimensional world under the fourth dimension of time. However, only humans have the capacity for self-awareness, creativity, intelligence, sapience, intentionality, to reason, to educate, and so much more. In other words, we are the only creatures on this planet that are aware of our existence in four dimensions. So could sentience and consciousness be considered a fifth dimension? Not a 5th dimension of space and time, but of reality to help define who were are and our present boundaries?"

Alabama, for once you done good.

Leaving the Senate is the only good thing Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III has ever done in his 70 years.

Huzzah my faith in humanity has been restored a little bit. I mean a guy who helped put two KKK members that bombed a church in prison beat a pedophile by less than a single percentage point, but it's nice to know the majority of Alabama voters draw the line somewhere. Now on to the next circus, the recount!
"The Alabama Republican Party said it would not support Moore's push for a recount."
But sticking to his typical level of crazy and hypocritical twisted evangelical christianity, Moore said "Realize that when the vote is this close that it's not over, We also know that god is always in control."
Well bud, god voted and said you're out.

Yeah, I wouldn't give Alabama too much credit. 49.9% to 48.4% with 1.7% voting for write-ins isn't exactly a "statement" result. Then again, Jones ran a traditional (D) platform. If he had run as an anti-abortion (D) he probably would have won by the 10 points I was hoping for.

You have to remember, Moore was unfit for the Senate before any of the women came forward. He was twice removed from the AL supreme court for refusing to follow SCOTUS decisions/directives. The fact he got 48.4% of the vote despite that, and on top of the sexual harassment paints a grim picture of Alabama politics.

I'm pretty sure consciousness and sentience are just words we use to describe various levels of the first person experience available to a lifeform. While there is some debate about where to draw certain lines, they all reside within the good ole spacetime we see before us.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

yeah this was the point i was trying to make. good that the other guy won, but goddamn if he didn't beat a child molester by just 1 percent. i think human decency demands that he should've won by 95%. 5% extremists i can live with. even 10%, but that's getting somewhat skin-crawly. 45% voted for this demon? there's something systemically wrong with the country and the people even if they eked out the decent choice in the end.

I'm surprised by this, I thought Moore would do well thanks to people who wouldn't want to admit their support in polls. Moore is refusing to concede, who'd have thought he'd ignore legally binding numbers and refuse to take no for an answer? Trump's reaction should be interesting, when he gets his phone back from his handler. There's no way he wrote that tweet.

It's an interesting result. The GOP basically backed Moore because he was their only shot at winning the seat and any moral qualms would soon be forgotten, as we've seen with Trump. As a national indicator a hard red state voting blue is a big surprise but it's a lot more about Moore than Trump, and doesn't signal a huge backlash against the President - just that Moore was awful.

So it's Steve Bannon that I feel sorry for ... ! He backed Moore out of ideological choice, not the usual morally bankrupt pragmatism, and he probably helped persuade Trump to back Moore. I presume Luther Strange would have won easily, and that Bannon's support won Moore the primary, so Bannon is the guy responsible for getting Alabama to vote for a Democrat. He cost the Republicans a safe seat and embarrassed Trump.

I think this says little about Trump but a lot about Steve Bannon.

it truly is shocking how so many voted for moore, who might be the most soulless fuck who ever lived. the republican party has become truly repugnant that so many of them can support such a hateful monster just cuz he has an R next to his name.

Hey, Roy Moore may have felt up 14 year old girls, but at least he didn't have an email server in his basement. Also, Moore loves Jesus, so he must be alright.

Seriously, I did not think he would lose.
