Ubisoft Delays Far Cry 5, The Crew 2, and a Third Game

A post on UbiBlog indicates neither Far Cry 5 nor The Crew 2 will come out on time. The next Far Cry game was expected on February 27th, but is now due exactly a month later on March 27th. They urge those interested in the next installment in the shooter series to return tomorrow for a look at the game: "Tune in to the Ubiblog tomorrow, December 8th at 10pm PST to get the newest look at Far Cry 5." Meanwhile, The Crew 2 was planned for release on March 16th, but is now due "in the first half of our next fiscal year," so they are going from a precise date to a six month Window that requires a decoder ring. Their fiscal year ends on March 31st, so this indicates The Crew 2 is now due between April 1 and September 30 2018. And while they are on a roll, they also offer this press release covering those two games and adding word that a third "franchise" game that they are yet to announce is going to miss a release window they likewise never announced. Word is, "In addition, one of the three unannounced franchise games initially planned for release in Fiscal 2018-19 now will be released in Fiscal 2019-20." Here's word:

Today, Ubisoft announced it is investing more time in the development of three upcoming games. Far Cry® 5 is now slated for release on March 27, 2018 (instead of February 27, 2018) and The Crew® 2 will come out in the first half of Fiscal 2018-19 (rather than on March 16, 2018). In addition, one of the three unannounced franchise games initially planned for release in Fiscal 2018-19 now will be released in Fiscal 2019-20.

Christine Burgess-Quémard, Ubisoft’s Worldwide Studios Executive Director, said, "This decision is in line with our strategic vision of developing even more engaging and higher quality experiences for gamers. Taking more time with Assassin’s Creed Origins enabled our talented development team to fully express their creative vision. As expected, this had a very positive impact on the game’s quality and largely participated to its commercial success. Taking a similar approach, we have decided to invest additional development time in three upcoming games."

I winder if the Crew 2 will actually stream properly instead of being a stuttering mess, despite the mediocre graphics.

I bought the first game for under $7, and it was crap. Thankfully, Forza Horizon 3 came out and armored all over that trash.

Ubisoft Kiev did the shitty PC port, I'm guessing? I played it on the Xbone (it was free, sue me), and it ran perfectly fine.

I wonder if they are taking more time on the next AC game as well, like they did with Origins.

I hope so. Origins was pretty awesome. I'm not gonna lie, I'm digging the look of Far Cry 5.

First time I've noticed a delay from a big publisher in ages... I remember when delays happened frequently, because the game wasn't up to their standards.

Anyone's guess what this one's about (with ubi's track record), but we can dream!

They haven't finished cutting out all the content for planned DLC and finished implementing loot box style monetization.
It's funny how everybody has a different take. On another site I saw someone speculate the exact opposite, that it's too allow Ubisoft to remove lootboxes in response to the EA situation.

Personally I think it's to polish it up because they know they've got a hit on their hands. Countless games have had similar one month delays, so it's not unusual in any way.

I dunno guys, I'm pretty Hype for FC5 and the quality of Wildlands (Even if it was a bit repetitive) and AC Origins gives me a good feeling about what is coming. Big fan of 3 and 4. I hope they stick the boot riiiiight into meth addled rural religious white supremacist types whilst making them uncomfortably sympathetic like they did to asian narco autocrats in the last few games.

... which is why I have zero expectations for these titles. For one I absolutely dislike Uplay. And then it's obvious that they will come pre-infested with the plaque known as "micro transactions". Right now Ubi is learning from EA how it's done: Wait until the shitstorms have calmed and keep fucking over your stupid customers.

I dunno, I kind of feel that Ubi's stock is going up. Sounds like they're trying to get things right instead of just push out crap to make that precious holiday vig.
