Get The Bureau: XCOM Declassified for Free

The Humble Store offers The Bureau: XCOM Declassified with a 100% discount for the next two days, taking the Humble Bundle "pay what you want" strategy to the extreme. As usual, this will be redeemed through Steam, so a Steam account is prerequisite for this. Here's a reminder of what to expect from this third-person shooter set in the XCOM universe:

The year is 1962 and the Cold War has the nation gripped by fear. A top-secret government unit called The Bureau begins investigating a series of mysterious attacks by an enemy more powerful than communism. As agent Carter, call the shots, pull the trigger and lead your squad in a gripping third-person tactical shooter set within a covert war to protect humanity from an otherworldly enemy.

Annnnnd now Homefront is free. But they totally aren't trying to get notice after the whole IGN thing. Nope. Not at all.

Who cares? It's free with absolutely no catch. Stop being angry at that.

Well, that's it, really. Cutter has spoken. When Cutter says the game is good, the game is good, fuck your opinion! Why are we even here?! Hell, why do I even have a brain?!

*grabs drill*

Here, Cutter, you think for me for now on...do I need to take a shit? Fuck if I know, what do you think, Cutter?

It's awful.

Really? The ONLY game you've never finished. You either have a really small game library or are really an OCD completionist. I'd say the overwhelming majority of games I have I've never finished.

And no, it's a good game.

Yes, the only game I've never finished. I have a library of hundreds of titles, going back decades. So this is something special.

But the reason I didn't finish it isn't because it is the worst game ever - it isn't. The story was absurd, and had f-all to do with XCOM. The shooting was a bit better, but really only hit "passable" at its zenith.

I guess rather than awful I would revise my statement to say I found it crushingly mediocre.

To each their own.

You guys are unbelievable, even when something is free you all still find ways to bitch.

Some things are not worth it, even when free.

Not that I know with this game, I got it in some bundle in the past year or so and haven't played it yet.

Thats beside the point, this game was never that bad or how some people try to make it out as bad.

Never look a gift horse in the mouth. Good words to live by.

They've been giving away those coupons forever, and they only work if you've never subscribed before. So it's not bringing people back, they're continuing to try and get fresh meat.

I know. I was a monthly subscriber starting with a coupon up until recently. I only pointed out that it had a coupon for those that were interested. Their recent sales on regular games and the # of games they are giving away has accelerated since...you know what.

February-August: I got 4 free titles
Since IGN (Oct 13 announcement): I got 4 free titles

FYI they changed their "legaleze" on Sep 14th (obviously the purchase occurred earlier than announcement) and if you count free titles from that date, it's 6. 6 in 2.5 months versus 4 in 7. Nope. Definitely nothing changed.

What IGN thing? Anyway, good game. I picked it up ages ago for a fiver or something. Quite enjoyed it actually.

Could not disagree more. If you miss this, you will be fine. I'd call it 4th worst Xcom game behind enforcer, Xcom3 and interceptor.

As an XCOM game, it wasn't great. As a standalone game with no baggage attached, it was actually pretty decent. The setting was cool and the combat was interesting enough. The story also has one of the weirdest plot twists I've ever seen in a game.

Personally I really liked The Bureau. Great setting, mostly fun combat, decent story, and just enough XCOM references to earn the name. You can't go wrong for the price either...

Begone with your anti Xcom Apocalypse heresy! But also maybe they could have dialed it back a bit with the sim everything realtime stuff... Hopefully the new Frozen Synapse game brings the idea home.

Let me just point out the obvious and say with all their recent sales and giveaways, they are clearly trying to bring people back into the fold after the whole IGN thing. Just saying.

They've been giving away those coupons forever, and they only work if you've never subscribed before. So it's not bringing people back, they're continuing to try and get fresh meat.
