Black Mirror Released

KING Art Games and THQ Nordic announce the release of Black Mirror for Windows, macOS, Linux, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. This is unrelated to the British television anthology series, rather it's a remake of the horror game of the same name first released in 2003. The PC editions are available on GOG.com and Steam. This video shows how they've updated the game, and here's word on its similarities and differences compared to the original:
Like in the original graphic adventure trilogy, the Gothic Horror genre and its unique atmosphere of madness and psychological distress remains at the heart of Black Mirror.

The point-and-click gameplay of the original trilogy served as the basis for the re-imagined gameplay, which focuses on close-up investigation and interaction with nightmarish visions that plague the protagonist of the game David Gordon.

Key Features

  • A modern re-imagining of the acclaimed gothic-horror adventure series
  • Interactions with vision-like apparitions which help you learn more about your family's past
  • Eerie atmosphere focusing on the horrors of the mind, in the style of EA Poe and HP Lovecraft
  • High quality voice acting from a compelling ensemble cast

Is this even a point and click game anymore?
No, sadly not. I just recently played through the first 3 games, and absolutely loved them. Just then I discovered that a new game was in the making, and was pretty excited.
I bought it yesterday when there was not a single review yet on steam. This game is no point&click adventure. If you go to the controls, you can see a controller layout and stuff like "invert Y". In the game, you walk around with the controller and do some simple actions at certain interaction points, just like in a Telltale game.
Currently, I don't know if I would recommend it, as I wasn't too gripped by the game so far. The walking around is a bit clumsy, especially the orientation, because the camera position is mostly static, like in old Resident Evil games. There's no map or quick navigation or something like that.
And it seems to be poorly optimized, sometimes you get good framerate, but sometimes it drops for no apparent reason. As an example, walking around is fine, then you examine an object in the inventory and suddenly it goes down to ~20-30 fps until you exit the inventory again. Also the loading times between different rooms is pretty high, even with an SSD. This could turn out to be quite annoying if you need to explore or backtrack a lot (which will probably be the case in an Adventure game).
So currently I would advise to wait for some patches that hopefully come and improve the experience.

So their re-imagination is basically a Telltale game without Telltale polish and experience? That's pretty dismal then... I liked Black Mirror 1-3 as well so that's pretty sad to read... but if this isn't a point and click I am honestly not interested in the game at all....
