Out of the Blue

Happy Thanksgiving to all who are celebrating! And here's hoping we all have things to be grateful for even if you aren't. I certainly have much to be thankful for, including the fact that you are reading these words right now. I'm also appreciative of my health, keeping the big picture in mind, since I came down with a cold yesterday which has me a little scratchy and congested for the moment. But it's pretty mild so far, so even that deserves some thanks.

Maybe it is just the cynic in me, but this story seems to have a major hitch in it, from the article:
...Wanting to repay him for his kindness, she started a GoFundMe page to share the story and raise funds for him.

She has since taken him essentials to stay warm and repaid him for the gas, and her GoFundMe page has raised more than $160,000 — far more than her $10,000 goal. She wrote that she would like to use the funds to help him rent an apartment, get a reliable vehicle and cover four to six months' worth of expenses.
You'd think $160k should last him 3-4 years, not 4-6 months. Maybe the 4-6 months figure was based on money actually received vs. pledged... ?

Pretty sure the original target of $10k is what was intended to cover 4-6 months (as in the winter). The article could have been clearer about it but yeah... I think your cynicism is overtaking their weak editing.

Well, there's a front kinda hangin' around, bisecting the state, so our temps are pretty diverse from where I am (the little star at the top) to the south, wherever your grandmother is...The south tends to stay warm for most of the winter, from say Melbourne/Ft. Lauderdale down. We, OTOH, here in Lake City, are hopin' for maybe a nice dusting or an inch or two of snow this year. It's happened before, quite a few times. Fingers crossed! I haven't seen snow in...17 years. Damn.

Or maybe she's given him $10k and kept the rest for herself?

No problem, Rigs. Last year was a pretty big anomaly, the team has sucked since 1997. But, they've been my team since 1972... whatca' gonna do?

Oh, I know all about that particular pain, being a Giants fan. But like they say, you're only a true fan if you stick by them when they absolutely suck. I mean, the Giants have never really had a multi year dynasty like Dallas or the Patriots. They just kinda get really good for one year, go to the Super Bowl, usually win from behind or through some spectacular save at the very last minute and then they implode for another 5-7 years. So I'm right there with ya, my friend...
