At times, the sentiment behind the R.I.P. notations that occasionally (or these
days seemingly frequently) appear here has been called into question, since
saying Rest In Peace (or Requiescat In Pace) about arguably (or unarguably) evil people seems
an unwarranted kindness. Besides how believers will tell you that judging these
things is the sole province of the almighty, some of those involved in these
discussions have correctly surmised that this is not actually an endorsement of
the individual in question. It's just a shorthand introduction to the news of the person's death
and their obituary, as opposed to saying something like "he's dead Jim."
Please know that this is never meant as an endorsement or a way of overlooking
wrongdoing. I'm not sure why I chose today to explain that today, I guess it's
just one of those helter skelter thoughts that popped into my mind.
