Mass Effect N7 Day

The Mass Effect website celebrates N7 Day, thanking fans for their support for the Mass Effect franchise, which turns 10 years old on November 20th. They offer a Ten Years of Mass Effect video with a look back, along with some celebratory artwork, giveaways, a giant image collage, and a livestream schedule. They note that they "cant wait to see what the future holds" for the series, though they only had vague thoughts on that future following the end of single-player support for Mass Effect Andromeda and the absorption of developer BioWare Montreal into EA Motive. Here's word:

This year marks 10 years since the release of Mass Effect. In that time, weve made friends, fallen in love, and traveled to new galaxies.

Weve watched our community grow, as all of you shared your love of this universe, wore your N7 with pride, and told us stories about your Shepard and Ryder.

This N7 day, were celebrating how far weve all come together, and looking back on a decade of Mass Effect.

Thank you for coming with us to the stars and beyond. Its been a hell of a ride. We cant wait to see what the future holds.

I agree I wish ME:A had some post-launch support. Especially with the Xbox One X launching yesterday and it's STARVED for "launch" titles that are "enhanced". ME:A could definitely get some sales if they gave a shit.

Other developers claimed that it takes about 1-3 days to do an xboxox patch. That's probably BS, but still it can't be that hard, as it will mean new sales pretty much guaranteed.

(Regarding SW:Battlefront II) Frostshite is a horrible piece of shit engine that makes games look artificial as if you were playing on a movie set instead of the actual location. -CJ_Parker

Still my favourite series to date even thought ME:A took some of the shine off it. I'm a big boy and can ignore the star child choice in 3 and still see the rest of that game is a brilliant success.

ME:A had problems stemming from its production issues. (Restarting the project 2 years before launch, and Bioware poaching all the talent to Anthem) But I enjoyed it quite a bit.

My problem isn't with Andromeda so much as the lack of support they gave it. Why the fuck should anyone believe they give two shits about Mass Effect as a franchise? They put it on ice because of one game that didn't meet expectations, and the reason it didn't meet expectations was issues with the production staff, not a lack of fan interest.

Andromeda had a lot going for it. The combat was the best it's been. The vehicle was a huge improvement over the Mako. The character/skill progression is good. Great squadmates, all of them memorable. Even if it was being memorable for being a complete fuckup and tool like Liam. There was no Kaiden/Ashley weighing it down.

It has plenty of flaws too, but nothing that couldn't have been fixed in a DLC or sequel. They just needed to put a better team on it.

The solution to the toxicity of identity politics surely isn't to add white identity politics to the mix.

ME:A wasn't shitty, it just wasn't very good. I think it landed a mid 70 score on Metacritic.

I enjoyed it about as much as I did ME:2 and ME:3 in that both of those I also didn't finish...

CD Projekt Red does a "ten years of the Witcher" video, and it's 3 minutes of seeing your favorite characters once more, and it's fantastic.

Bioware does a "ten years of Mass Effect" video, and it's 7 minutes of them talking...

smh.

In any case, happy Bday Mass Effect. Shame you died the ignominious way you did, with a shitty game.

How was I lied to?

How do you feel lied to?

Did you think that choices you made across the game, which had consequences throughout the franchise, would necessarily culminate in multiple totally different endings? I seem to have missed that memo.

I'm not so arrogant that I think that my vision for what a game should be is the "right" one.

How about a Xbox one X enhanced patch? Considering the PS4 pro got [one], and the game is only 8 months old... NOPE!

Still a good franchise, whatever you think of the ending of ME3. I like developers who take chances, even if I don't like the outcomes, I think it's overall too rare with popular culture.

I can't honestly say I'd feel so much better if I just beat the bad aliens, restored peace to the galaxy, got a space mansion, and was awarded a bunch of medals and a million space bucks from the space government etc....

I wonder if you'd feel better if you weren't lied to for five years. A great example of a developer that took chances would be BioWare and not BioWarEA.

Those "vague thoughts" were uttered long before microtransactions and loot boxes (even in single player games) really took off so I'm sure that they have reevaluated their thoughts on the matter.

Established popular franchise + microtransactions + loot boxes = $$$

The next ME is definitely coming with a nice li'l in-game store so you can play dress-up-an-alien for cash or buy awesome-button equipment for god mode.

Complete asshats, still using bioware/ea points for dlc after nearly a decade of ripping off their customers. Middlefinger

"Choices that matter"

Lol. Mass Effect 3 ruined that illusion.
