And yet it has sold 20M copies. Must be doing something right.

I haven't seen people, some of whom hardly post here, this angry since Star Citizen was making constant headlines.
Some folks just want to see the world smolder.

If I was a lot younger I could see getting worked up over PUBG...it's a Third person shooter(a cardinal sin already to many) that is unreasonably famous, given how weak certain aspects of it are compared to classic games. There is also loot box nonsense, rampant cheating, etc. There is a lot of fuel for rage, arguably.

But I'm the age I... actually am.. so bleh, congrats to the PUBG people for the wild success, and I just pity the younger players who never played the great multiplayer games back in the day and have no frame of reference. Nostalgia and cult-like worship have brought in like 200 million or whatever for Star Citizen, Minecraft got sold for around 4 billion? PUBG making 400 million(?) isn't that surprising in this Youtube/Follow the Online Celebrity Gamer era.

I don't think I'd like the game, but I'm not going out of my way to call all involved idiots.

Just starting the game, you can tell the devs have no clue.

The developers of this game are absolutely rank amateur, and do not understand the technological reasons why no one has bothered to make this game before. Those technological reasons have not been solved, and they don't know the first thing about solving them.

This game is utter shit, it runs like utter shit, it looks like utter shit, it sounds like utter shit, and they are being handsomely rewarded for turning out utter shit.

Because this sounds like the holy grail of FPS online gaming . . but it's just a pile of shit.

Graphics are actually really good, most people just run at low because a higher ping gives you a competitive advantage.

Gameplay is a pathetic mess.

In what way? I did have one low speed vehicle collision that resulted in both vehicles exploding, but that's the only bug I've run into in the last 100+ games. Dropping, looting, moving, shooting, peaking, changing stance, all feels relatively natural. Hitting a window frame while shooting or getting stopped on a one foot cliff in your vehicle happens very occasionally, but it's easy to avoid once you know to do so.

There's no sense of achievement. No awards, no real co-op worth mentioning.

Winning a 1 vs 99 free for all is "no sense of achievement"? You are awarded with cosmetic items you can sell, I've made over $400 playing this game in my spare time. No real co-op worth mentioning? 4-player Squad is the most popular game mode.

I am very, very worried about the impact this game will have on the PC gaming industry.

A positive one. Developers see there is still massive income potential in games developed for PC first, instead of being second hand console port gimmicks.

Quinn wrote on Nov 8, 2017, 09:27:
If this garbage can pull in 20M players, why the fuck create games like The Witcher anymore...
The games have completely different demographics. A game with the quality of The Witcher will still result in overwhelming success, no matter how many Battleground clones exist.

I apologize, but I disagree with literally every point you've made.

You would think that with all that income they could at least come up with something to combat all the cheating in the game. Despite all the announced bans, cheating is still rampant.

Why would they? It's easier and more profitable to ban cheater accounts so they can buy another copy...that system has been working very well for Valve's CS:Go, lol

Until it has permanent first person only mode enforced by the server (i.e. server only replicates what a first person view could possibly see), the whole game is one big cheat

This is the main reason I personally have zero interest in the game or any similar game.

To me, anything tactical goes out of the window when you see around corners and over walls
