Mac Overwatch Follow-up

A post on Gadgets360.com has more on the possibility of Overwatch coming to macOS. This comes from a conversation during BlizzCon, though it does not seem to be a direct response to the rumor of a Mac installer for Blizzard's multiplayer shooter (thanks Mac Gamer HQ). They were chatting with Blizzard's Tim Ford, Lead Engineer for Gameplay Systems on Overwatch, and they coincidentally asked him why Overwatch isn't on Mac like most Blizzard titles. Here's word:

“We have no plans of giving this game on the Mac," says Ford. "There are several technology decisions that Apple has made that has made it a little difficult for us to release Overwatch in the way we want it to be consumed, and that is why we haven't pursued it."

Probably because apple hasn't seen fit to support anything newer than opengl 4.1, which was released back in 2010.

In their defense, they really don't have the resources to support anything more recent or build good drivers.

The only thing that flat-earthers have to fear is sphere itself.

Does Blizzard have a Battle.net launcher on Mac? If not this would be my guess.

They do, and all of their other games run just fine.

I think Ford owes Mac gamers a more definitive explanation. Quite frankly this is a cop-out, and it's a bit shit.

Apple’s technology decisions are mostly about what the “average user” wants, squeezed into as small of a package as possible. Because of this, graphics processing horsepower is left behind. No one should be remotely surprised at this.
Crap drivers are another.

It might also be related to anti cheat mechanisms / we shouldn't assume it's all about graphics, though you might be right
