A spintires game? So not by the original developers?

Also how is this naming scheme legal?

It is the original developer, he got screwed over for the first Spin Tires. I presume he owned the name but it's weird that the video has the name the other way around from Steam and the press release. I don't know the details of the screw-over, but here's a quote from the ever-reliable Steam reviews section:

Oovee is the original publisher and stopped paying the Developer.

The Dev, Pavel Zagrebelny, luckily owns the rights to the game engine and has done some work on it despite not being paid.
For him to give us these updates, he had to go through a DIFFERENT PUBLISHER to get it out to us.
The original Spintires will NEVER receive an update ever again as Oovee has taken the money from that game and started an entirely new business that has nothing to do with video games.

The new publisher isn't just going to do all the work of setting everything up for this Dev and not make any money. For sure you understand every business needs to make money, right?

Now that Pavel Zagrebelny is working with a new publisher, you will start seeing regular updates to this game.

Thanks, that's one hell of a background to this... so this is basically the actual Spintires game now, and the old one was the scam.

What a shitty thing to do to a developer though.

That price looks way too high. I can get it half price because I own the original and that's tempting but I wouldn't touch it for £25. I'm glad the developer is still going, I gather they got screwed by their previous publisher.

There is something very enticing about bad-assing through muddy terrain and water with various vehicles in these games. I really want to pick this one up and give it a try. So many good driving games already on the backburner though.. but none like this.

That's a decent rundown, JoeNapalm. I had a lot of fun with this game especially in co-op but it's not for everyone. We got out of some impossible situations and mastering all the different vehicles and mechanics was a lot of fun. I also found the engine pretty interesting as you have detailed environments and yet the game takes up very little space. Also, this game had a lot of mods.

I've heard this is basically a re-release of Spintires, so yeah - you do missions, the missions are generally hauling logs.

In Spintires, you'd start with a couple of smaller vehicles and have to explore and recover additional vehicles. The complexity comes from finding passable routes and conserving fuel to make it around the map.

Generally, you get stuck and have to send other vehicles in to rescue those...the map is a massive mud simulation and the more you stomp around the harder it gets to keep moving through the same routes.

I found Spintires to be inexplicably fun and zen-like, and got many hours of enjoyment out of it...but I'd caveat that endorsement with the statement that this is a very niche game. It's about being slow and deliberate and having things go wrong, then trying to fix them...it's not about racing around at high speed.

If the idea of pulling some massive Russian re-purposed artillery carriage out of a giant mudhole that it buried itself in after tumbling down the side of a volcano doesn't sound fun, then this probably isn't for you.

I think these guys are just putting out tech demos hoping they'll get licensed or acquired for something with real substance.

I watched that trailer and still have no idea what the game play is for this game. Just drive through the wilderness? Haul logs from one place to another? Are there missions? How do I acquire new vehicles?
If Russia stops fighting, the war ends. If Ukraine stops fighting, Ukraine ends. Slava Ukraini!
