Back to the discussion on games as a service we had, Nintendo has opened up that the 200MM downloads of Super Mario Run didn't give the profitability it wanted, but the Fire Emblem with microtransactions did.

The big difference in pricing is that SMR was a free download but $9.99 to unlock the entire game, Fire Emblem was free with microtransactions. I haven't played either, so can't comment on how onerous the microtransactions were. People seem to dig the game, though, I hadn't even known it was out! And I've never played a Fire Emblem. I'm really more interested in the business model.

$9.99 is a steep one-time purchase for a mobile game. I know most of us here keep saying we'd rather pay a higher one-time fee than many small fees, but I'd wager most of us consider $9.99 too high of one. I wonder how the conversion rate would have been at $4.99, and whether that would have increased profitability or not. I wonder how Nintendo would feel about its own premiumness at that price, and how it feels about it now that they've gone free to play.

tl;dr, though, this doesn't bode well.

Halloween is so much fun and the town here really gets into it. We've got our house all done and a ton of candy ready. Conveniently most of the candy just happens to be kinds that we like just in case there's leftovers

In this video Jennifer Appel says "Had they not been able to locate us we would have been dead in 24 hours."
Whereas the Follow-Up link blue posted has this: “We asked why during this course of time did they not activate the EPIRB. She had stated they never felt like they were truly in distress, like in a 24-hour period they were going to die,” said Coast Guard spokeswoman Petty Officer 2nd Class Tara Molle, who was on the call to the AP with Carr.
Ignoring the "storm they encountered", obvious health of the women and 2 dogs including lack of weight loss, this story doe not jibe in my book. But I could be wrong.

These days, it is difficult to know. They wouldn't be the first people rescued who purposely stranded themselves...

At this point I'd say we won't, we seem to be perpetually a couple of weeks away from putting the house on the market. I've grown to realize that MrsBlue is actually being an obstruction at this point because of her misgivings about this all. So I've decided that the only way to keep this from making me crazy is to do my best to facilitate, but to go with the flow and not let it make me crazy. It'll all work out in the end.

Are her misgivings about the new job or just the prospect of having to move? Is she currently working remotely for her new job? Whatever the answers, your approach seems sound. Although I've literally never been the marrying type, it has always seemed to me the cliche "Happy wife, happy life." was good guidance.

Good luck. Ours was frantic and quick. Sucked, don't think I will subject myself to moving ever again. We are still digging out. Garage is fairly full and storage unit is still about 1/3 full.....

Steam Link arrived from the crazy $1.00 deal - didn't think that would go through, but it is here and eager to try it out. I will currently try it over wireless, as the contractor hasn't been here yet to wire the whole house up.

/Edit: Hmmm, super easy setup, but some weirdness I need to work on. So it actually does STREAM 1 to 1 from your gaming rig to your LINK to your TV.

Few things:
-I have headphones plugged into my machine, so I have no sound on the TV from Link. I went to the gaming machine and sound is coming through headphones

-There are 2 resolutions. Your native on your gaming machine and a target resolution on your TV. Mine are vastly different, will need to play around with this to find optimal. It runs in window borderless through the link. (edit2: Found a "match resolution" on gaming computer in Steam settings - off to tinker)

-I used a PS3 USB. Had to keep it plugged in. I will mess around with this more - would hate to have to buy more hardware to be wireless controller. I will try a PS4 controller as well. (In the move I lost/misplaced my xbox 360 wireless dongle)

That was 10 minutes of messing around. Even through wireless it is reactive, haven't played anything as I need to tinker with resolution. Be dumb if I had to bring resolution on my gaming rig down to 1080. Also not to keen on the sound as my machine sits in a 2nd living room.

For $1.00 it seems cool, glad I didn't pay full price. I am sure I have a ton to learn on how this all works. I did no research, haven't looked up anything, this thing is truly plug and play.

//edit after playing with it. The sound works after a reset and ps3 controller now works wirelessly. Played a couple games, some lag with spikes. Impressive little piece of hardware. Needs to be wired for anything enjoyable. Played Road to Redemption and crashed a lot with stream lag. After about 40 mins of play whole unit became unresponsive. Ill wait until I can get wired.

sail malfunctions , then later the motor floods out, the phone also gets knocked in water, electronics go haywire ... wait 5 months = still don't activate emergency beacon ????


HOW did the dogs survive that long out to sea ??? let alone the two women ...??

Heh, so once you've got the house all spruced up, she's reticent to sell it?

There's also the whole "we've got 20 years in this community" aspect.

I'd be curious to know how it works. I keep the gaming machine in the living room, and have it connected to the big TV via HDMI cable. Be nice to have options.

As a man just don't bring up the facts as this nut show goes on tour.

Scientists can't explain a 'worrying' rise in methane levels.

Gee, I wonder what it could be.

1) Melting permafrost?

2) Leaks from fracking?

3) Ever increasing livestock production, especially beef?

4) The ever-increasing number of methane-producing landfills?

5) All of the above?
