It has been said that Republicans don't actually want Roe v Wade overturned. It has been such a conservative lightening rod, that were it to go away, so would all the funding they get from social conservatives.
I'm thinking that Star Citizen is in the same boat: if they ship the game, their funding goes away...
There are other similarities. Star Citizen has been in development for 5 years, almost as long as the 6 years that the republicans have been trying to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

I say Chris Roberts for President! Who's w/me?
Well, the GOP has been trying to overturned Roe going on 50 years.

I think you guys are missing 1 major thing.

Who is paying for CitizenCon? Why are people being taken off the main project to make proof of concept fluff demo's?

I'm half convinced that lots of the backers are more excited by the concept and process of the game development than the actual functioning game itself. As in they love discussing the designs, new features in terms of the possibilities that it could bring to their utopian gameplay universe ...

... rather than the actual realities and execution in game.

I mean I see people excitedly discussing a variation of a cargo hauling ship or passenger liner and dreaming of all kinds of exciting emergent gameplay scenarios it could bring --- rather than the reality of Star Citizen being an entertainment experience, and these emergent exciting game play possibilities are contingent on dozens, if not hundreds of real people playing in a way that is not particularly beneficial or entertaining to themselves.

As every snake oil salesman knows: Don't sell medicine - sell the idea of a (working) medicine!

Using a steering wheel on a Burnout game is like using the Space Shuttle controls to fly a kite.

I have to admit it >looks< just stunning. But, like an old girlfriend I had, looks aren't everything (she was batshit crazy...like 'it's ok that I've cheated 7 times but if you so much as look at a girl walking in the room in a way I don't like, say goodbye to Mr. Winky' crazy). I just can't understand the need to promote ships and places in game that you can't get a hold of and play yourself yet, or any timeframe as to >when< you will. Like just get the game finished! Stop with the cons (in every way) and just FINISH. THE. GAME!

Welp. You are definitely correct that this game, its makers and its cultists are full of sickness. No doubt about it. The sanity train has left the station a looong time ago for the supporters of this POS.

As much as I want this to be a thing, reading those cultish, effusive comments on the RSI website sickens me.

Did I also mention that the crass commercialism also sickens me? Also?
