Three Games Free on Steam for the Weekend

Three different games are free-to-play this weekend on Steam, offering the chance to try before you buy, and discounts if you do decide to make a purchase. You have your choice of ARK: Survival Evolved, Torment: Tides of Numenera, and HELLDIVERS. Here are quick refreshers on all three:

As a man or woman stranded naked, freezing and starving on the shores of a mysterious island called ARK, you must hunt, harvest resources, craft items, grow crops, research technologies, and build shelters to withstand the elements. Use your cunning and resources to kill or tame & breed the leviathan dinosaurs and other primeval creatures roaming the land, and team up with or prey on hundreds of other players to survive, dominate... and escape!

Torment: Tides of Numenera is the thematic successor to Planescape: Torment, one of the most critically acclaimed role-playing games of all time. Immerse yourself in a single-player, isometric, story-driven RPG set in Monte Cook’s Numenera universe. What does one life matter? Find your answer.

HELLDIVERS™ is a hardcore, cooperative, twin stick shooter from the creators of Magicka. As part of the elite unit called the HELLDIVERS, players must work together to protect SUPER EARTH and defeat the enemies of mankind in an intense intergalactic war.

I am curious about Torment: Tides of Numenera. I was a big Planescape Torment fan. That said, I can rarely do weekend F2Ps. I always end up busy until Sunday and then it just seems pointless since I won't be able to really get very far into it.

Big Planescape Torment fan? Then yes, you definitely have to get Tides of Numenera, the game was literally made for you.

I agree with you 100% on the Steam weekends. I have free time to play games during the week. Weekends, booked solid.

Humble has Guns of Icarus for free if you are looking for something more permanent.

HellDivers was disappointing for me. Made by the peeps that did Gauntlet which I had a blast with. HellDivers controls just are too nutty when the heat gets going. The reloading of the guns feels too frequent and I didn't see an auto reload so often I was stuck firing an empty gun until I hit "R".

I also found the interface a tad clunky to get a mission going. It does have a nice following though still playing it.

Helldivers, once you get a good co-op run going, is brilliant. I recommend anyone that hasn't played it (and enjoys the Heinlen-Starship Troopers-esque propaganda) just get it now... =)

So many perfect co-op moments when you either save the day by the skin of your balls (eg. calling in reinforcements when you're 3 down and about to die) or wrecking everything (your drop pod lands on your squadmates and wipes them out, leaving you easy game).

So Arc is exactly the same price it was before?

- Double the price
- 50% off 'sale'
- ???
- Profit

F&#K those guys!!! I considered Ark Survival at one point, but as soon as these AssClowns released paid DLC for a game still in EA, I want nothing to do with them out of principal. Voting with my wallet. DICKS!

Wanna know how I really feel?

Using a steering wheel on a Burnout game is like using the Space Shuttle controls to fly a kite.
