It's a nice lightweight sequel to Team Fortress, but it lacks enough complexity to keep me interested in it.

Not at all, just that a huge majority of people who bought the game have moved on. Less than 1 million active players across three platforms it was released on worldwide seems like a likely estimate to me. My friends list consisted of 100 players for overwatch alone at one point, and there are perhaps 4-8 max ever playing the game anymore, with the same few folks usually consisting of the low number. I just extrapolate the estimate from that, while taking into account that the game also has multiple regions and platforms.

35 million players, 34 million of which are toxic assholes.
