Barring a total societal collapse, self driving cars are not only inevitable, but a social benefit, saving 40,000 lives and billions of dollars in accident claims. It will also be disruptive with millions of jobs lost and entire industries like car insurance winking out of existence.

I agree. Anything where the problem is tweaking and improving software will inevitably happen. Machine intelligence is simply a matter of information processing, and will always be improving unless we lose our technology entirely. It may not always be at the same rate, nor will people always be able to predict that rate, but improvements will continue indefinitely.

People can argue about when those things are likely to happen, of course. However if it's inevitable, then preparing is never a waste. It'll have to be done eventually.

Anything that can be accomplished by thinking and processing information will one day be the realm of machines. Whether that's in 50 years or 500 is irrelevant. There's nothing magical about naturally evolved biological brains and/or bodies that make them inherently superior indefinitely. On the contrary, being limited by the slow pace of evolution almost guarantees we are out-paced and obsoleted in most types of labor by our own technology.

The solution to the toxicity of identity politics surely isn't to add white identity politics to the mix.

It's going to look pretty silly when in 30 years we have all these regulations and requirements for tech that never panned out

Are you referring to self driving cars? You don't think that's the inevitable future? Or are you referring to the tech insider mind hijack thing?

You think self-driving cars won't pan out? Even within 30 years?
