Free DRM-Free Torchlight 1 & 2 for Owners

GOG.com announces the chance for owners of Torchlight 1 and Torchlight 2 to get DRM-free versions of the game. Those who bought either game through runicgames.com can redeem their product keys for a GOG.com copy. For those who purchased through Steam, they announce this is covered by the return of their GOG Connect program. It seems like the offer for purchases through runicgames.com is indefinite, but Steam owners must act soon, as that deal ends on October 14 at 9:00 am EDT.

Strange. I have both TL1 and 2 on Steam but when I did the connect thing GOG just says "no eligible games found". Anyone else have that?

TL2 transferred successfully for me. I already had TL1 on GOG from when they gave it away a few years ago.

Edit: Ah, reading is fundamental. Says on the top of the page your Steam profile must be public. My privacy settings were set to friends only. Apparently a profile refresh can only be done once every two hours so we'll see if this fixes it, tomorrow.

If Steam were ever to go away. You have GOG.

to me it seems less a concern that steam will "go away", more valve inevitably being sold to EA (who already attempted a 1 billion dollar buyout a few years back) or some other megacorp when gabe newell dies of some obesity-related illness in the next 10 or so years. there are so many ways an actiblizzard or an EA could tear steam to shreds looking for that quick money and those mythical endless quarterly profit increases they just can't stop themselves from chasing.

Correct. I'm trying to avoid buying anything on Steam these days, if there is a GoG version. I don't think either service is going away anytime soon, but why not get another copy on GoG for free? I've done this for about 15-20 games so far on GoG, via the GoG Connect thing.

I read the FAQ and yeah, they explicitly state that linking accounts is permanent so it cannot be undone.

I use it, but never concerned myself with it staying linked. As long as GOG keeps doing this, the more Ill just end up going with GOG all the time. I have been very happy with a lot of the things they have been doing.

Anyone on Steam did the Connect thing? It looks permanent so no way to unlink, unlike on humblebundle which I link to get a game then unlink right after.

I have used it, and I believe you are correct, you cannot unlink the accounts, at least easily, as far as I can tell.

Aside from the obvious data sharing risk, just use different passwords, use 2 phase authentication if you're feeling nervous. Both GoG and Steam offer it.

The Steam Connect on Gog seems to only work if you make your Steam account public, so you can also make it public, link games, then go private again. It might help.
