Fortnite Passes 7 Million Players

Epic tweets a milestone for Fortnite, saying over seven million players have checked out their survival battle royale game (thanks GameSpot). Here's word:
Thanks to over 7 million of you who have played Fortnite! We want to keep the Battle Bus flying, so Duos and Supply Drops are available NOW.

I find it difficult to believe 7 million installed and played Fortnite, free weekend or not. I've seen popular Steam games with a lot more market penetration (who uses Epic's client again?) and advertising fail to put up those numbers over a longer period of time. Smells like a headline for the sake of PR.

It was on XBOX as well

That makes more sense then. Xbox players have nothing to play, Microsoft has seemingly given up on AAA exclusives. AAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

So, these morons are tallying the player count from the free weekend they just had. Isn't that just big of them to boast of those numbers when in fact, half of those who played it will not ever play it again since the free weekend is now over.

Hate companies that lie about the numbers when in reality they are not what they are saying they are.

Nah, there was no free weekend. The Battle Royale mode is free to play now, but the co-op campaign and co-op modes are all in early access for people who buy Founders packs. All modes will go free2play in 2018.

From what I can learn from the Founders packs there are various heroes to collect and level up with persistent gear, varying rarity, etc.

I gave the BR mode a look and ended up playing all day. Pretty good stuff! The part of the match I like the most is when the play area is so small it fits on the minimap and you can finally spend all your bricks to build your last base so I'm actually looking forward to the PVE modes where its all focused on base building.

This is what I did. Figured this one was free and would give a rough idea of PUBG. I'm not convinced though. Fortnite does feel like a mobile game. PUBG needs a free weekend.

Regardless of free weekend or otherwise, 7M is a lot. If half don't come back, that still leaves 3.5M, which is a huge active community. Huge.
LawBreakers would die for a tenth of these numbers, real or not.

I agree, but I also don't think they'd lie.
So, I think that 7M people did download. It's surprising, but I guess all of the complaints from PUBG devs kind of made people want to check it out more, knowing it was possibly a more polished and less serious take on PUBG.

I haven't played either, so I'm not trying to say one is better than the other (though I'd expect PUBG is better for most), but could imagine much of the fanbase checking this out.

But that is exactly what the problem is with the free weekends. You have no idea if 1% or 90% of that is people who actually own the game.
So this 7million number is not really says a whole lot other than yeah a lot of people have tried the game during the free weekend.
Tbh I've seen some youtube lets plays and the game looks fun but I have way too many games to play atm.
Maybe I'll grab this down the road sometime.

Is it just me or does this game look and feel like WoW in F2P mode for a mobile device?
Even these stupid presents and "free" stuff you get, is exactly the same as you know it from mobile device games.
That alone causes me to avoid this game. I feel so fucking insulted by games like those.
I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

When did it actually become free? Tried to try it a month ago and it insisted I buy an Early Access pack of a variety of prices.

[edit] Oh, the Battle Royale pvp is free
It was free to play this past weekend.
I think he was just referring to the game eventually go free to play kinda like Battleborn did

The casual aspect is fun...and fast matches make it easy to jump in and play a bit. My only issue with it is the umbrella phase.... Something about it is off and I can't put my finger on the mechanic that ruins it for me. I can't remember the last time I beat another group to the ground to start hoovering up weapons.

I watch some streams and friends play it, but I don't really need ANOTHER game. I do like the faster paced action and shorter matches though. 15-20 minutes? vs 30-35 minutes.
