$45K Star Citizen Refund?

A post to reddit in a sub-reddit called Star Citizen Refunds claims what seems like it must be the largest game refund in history (thanks Rollory). This says a corporate entity secured a refund for three Star Citizen "Completionist" packages originally purchased for $15,000 each, making the grand total for their refund $45,000. Here's the story:
There was lots of arguing within our guild, but in the end the whales who had contributed the most had the final say, and we refunded our three completionist packages, originally purchased at $15k each, so $45k total refund. We sidelined many other great games and commercial opportunities waiting for Star Citizen, but in the end we can't wait any longer, and a new generation is joining also who have absolutely no interest. The final straw was evidence presented the committee of Chris Roberts blatantly lying, we don't mind the delays but couldn't handle the lies anymore, and it left us wondering what else he is knowingly lying about.

It was a nightmare getting the refund, we are a commercial org and pooled the money to buy the completionist packages, and used a corporate card to buy them, so we had major issues with getting refunded to the same card, paypal and then providing ID. Total it took about 5 weeks to get sorted. A lot of time was spent trying to explain the situation to some woman called "Schala" and just getting the same answers copied and pasted backwards and forwards, they definitely try to delay you as much as possible in the hope you'll forget or give up.

I prefer to remain anonymous as the guild can easily be linked back to my personal identity, and we all know how insane and potentially dangerous the few remaining Star Citizen believers can be. I'll put some juicy screenshots below however.

Thanks for all your help here guys, we couldn't have done it without the support and guidance of this subreddit.

This sounds like rubbish.
The refund should never have been allowed if true.

Rubbish? Is it the amount that you think is fake, or the fact that some mini-cult spent X thousand dollars together to buy Star Citizen stuff?

I'm glad these guys got their refund, assuming this is a true story. The amount people are spending on that game is horrifying.

Sounds like it's fake, I agree. Could be Derek Smart, or could be a disgruntled customer wanting to call Roberts a liar...;)

This sounds more like a targeted hit piece than an event that actually occured. Language like this really makes me doubt the validity of this:

we all know how insane and potentially dangerous the few remaining Star Citizen believers can be. I'll put some juicy screenshots below however.

Doesn't sound like language that a group who put 45k into some digital ships would be using. They obviously had some pretty massive faith in the game and community to spend that much.

Also, the provided screenshots could have been easily created by a 10 yr old with a copy of Photoshop. Not really proof of anything.

What lie are they talking about? Did Chris recently backtrack on a promised feature?

Edit: guess I should have read the other comments before posting, lol. Checking this "additional proof" now.

I like how some people are STILL trying to defend this game...or lack of game. I think everyone who contributed should get a refund.

The tone definitely does make me skeptical... If I was refunded $45k I think I would have refrained from the cheap shots even if I felt that way.

People defending the game, where exactly, because it's not in this thread.
You do know that offices were rented, health insurance was paid, children were fed and clothed, people received salaries and compensation and some might add that hookers and blow flowed like wine.

Just how do you propose to pay for all those refunds, a gubment bailout?

Exactly, I would have included a non-disclosure clause.

Why? They knew what they were getting into. I don't think they deserve anything. This is the nature of funding development. It's all of the risk of investing without any real upside. Read the fine print folks.

Even if the refund is real. The tone of the person posting is that of a drama whore doing it for the upvotes/lulz.

Most people don't care if you've lost faith/interest in Star Citizen. You want your refund, go get your refund. Don't need to dramatize it.

They put down that much money in the first place in order for the refund to happen...so again it just reeks of someone just doing this for dramatic effect.

Despite the Derek-cultists ravings, This game is happening, it will be released, you can play the alpha right now. The only question is if the game will be of lasting fun or if it will just ultimately be a tech demo for future games. Just get over it. Play or don't play. Put money in, or don't. Just sick of the drama whoring and the people who want to just see it burn for shits and grins.

If I was trying to refund that much, I'd spend the few extra bucks and hire a lawyer to write them a scary letter. Once you involve a lawyer they know you're serious and just want to make you go away.

Ain't no one ever faked a video before. And faking a screen refresh sure don't sound majorly complicated.

If someone demanded I sign an NDA in exchange for a 45k refund, I'd fucking lawyer up and take it to court.

And Chris Roberts does *not* want that, because discovery and shit comes into play there and the publicity would suck.

Since pledging more money meant more features and more delay, does a refund mean fewer features and earlier release?

If you're buying 3 completionist packs as a "commercial org" it's obvious you're trying it as some kind of investment. Since it has become completely unpredictable as to when (if ever) they could reap that return, they filed for a refund. I think the stupid thing is this: using this game as an investment opportunity.

Not going to ask for a refund on my $35.

The page refresh video is reasonably convincing, still could be faked though. It is just another piece of straw on the camel's back, albeit a somewhat amusing one...
