How is this game compared to original SWB games and Galactic Conquest mod for BF1942? I still have my SWB games!

Hard to say the game failed with 15 million units sold, but damn, what a disappointment.

Yeah, I mean....it's Dice and it's "Battleblah"...they pretty much set the expectation that it be just as strong as any Battlefield game but with a Star Wars theme. That is the problem though....Star Wars is a story. An epic space opera of a story....but a story. Battlefield is first and foremost a multiplayer team-based FPS. On paper I think it is much easier to blend those concepts successfully then it really is in the real world of game development.

That said, had Battlefront released with a short campaign and say the Death Star DLC as part of the base game I think it wouldn't have been criticized nearly as much. Just my humble opinion as more of Star Wars fan then a online FPS fan.

Yes, it does.

Man, I really wanted to love this game. But it just didn't have the fun factor from the Battlefield games (for me, anyway). Here's hoping they right the ship with the sequel.

I mean, that's why it's a BattleFRONT, not a BattleFIELD, right?
I dunno, Beam. The game could have benefited from some Battlefield-type complexity.

Up front, I've never played a Battlefront, and I've never enjoyed a Battlefield (doing solely 1942, then beta testing another, I think Battlefield 2.)

That said, I agree. From everything I've read, this could have been more complex. It seems like LucasArts and EA were pushing for as many users as possible, but the overlap between gamers and Star Wars fans lies deep, and they could have made a game that appealed to slightly fewer people but to those people much more, as making it less complex didn't really increase the audience range.

Still, though, it says BattleFront. People should have known what they were getting.

But that's the thing, this was DICE, not LucasArts. So some of us were hopeful it would borrow some of the style and complexity from the Battlefield games (same engine, even). Oh well.

never shall the two meet, aside from the single player campaign in the next one the multiplayer will still be the same low IQ multiplayer as this one - perhaps even worse. That alpha they put out showed off a map that even call of duty players would call small.

as cheap as it is, not worth installing Origin on my computer again. plus BF2 comes out early Oct, so without single player and community migration to BF2, not worth it IMO.

It's a great game for $5, especially for kids. My 7 year old son, tried mouse-keyboard control for the first time in this game (switching to controller for the flying portions). Best part was when at a friend's house playing Battlefront on his Xbox one, I heard my son saying, "controller is so annoying for this game". I couldn't stop smiling for a while

Kid-friendliness aside, the offline play and the overall quantity of content in the Ultimate Edition easily makes this game worth way more than $5. Online 32 player servers can be found almost any time. Performance is extremely good too on most 1060/Rx470/R9290 or above level PCs (and I suspect it'd do alright on 1050s and Rx460s too) It's a pretty good casual multi-player FPS. For this price, I'd highly recommend it.

If hardly anyone is playing this multiplayer-only game, was it worth a purchase even at that price point?

I really just got it for the feeble single player. I usually spend more at Taco Bell on a bender so I figure 5 bones is worth it.

Exactly, what's not to like.

If you got kids, you could do a lot worse for $5. The game is gorgeous, and captures that Star Wars atmosphere wonderfully, even if the gameplay isn't the greatest. And there are some single player modes if you just want to cruise around and blast stormtroopers.

Yeah for $5, it's probably worth it just to shoot some stormtroopers.

But you'll get it again! For free!

So, is there ANY kind of offline play in this at all? I mean, for 83% off I'm tempted to get it just to gawk at the maps, but are you even able to do that?

Yes, you can play VS AI in a few modes. Also a horde/co-op mode.

Yeah, I've noticed a lot of other people verbalizing the same thing, which caused the game's buzz and sales to faded away, and brings us to why they're loudly advertising "FREE SEASON PASS". \o/ over here \o/ over here!!
