The cutout doesn't bother me because 99% of the time there's no information there, and when there is they can just window the screen. I haven't followed closely, but had expected that the top would just be the status bar and the screen would be an awkward ratio like the S8. On my S8, there's pretty much never anything but emptiness there. If it's a standard ratio, well, bunk.

It has another downside that many articles don't seem to have mentioned - it hides content. In other words, think of the cutout more as laying on top of the screen. So if you're watching a video (or looking at anything really), part of it is "obscured" by that cutout.

I like the newer minimal bezel trend, but I think the top cutout thing is ugly as hell. This also includes the new Essential Android phone which has a similar, though smaller, cutout. I'd rather just have a thin top bezel that goes the whole way across.

EDIT: Also, this - https://youtu.be/sjlHnJvXdQs.

Well... the wife an I both have the iPhone 5. and before that we had the 3G. So, we upgrade roughly every 5 years or so. We're looking at the Plus since my fingers are too big to text properly on that itty bitty 5, and my eyes are getting to a point where I need reader glasses for tiny print.

That said... I'm torn between the 7 Plus and the 8 Plus, mainly for the better camera features on the 8. But I'm not sure it's worth the extra $150 between the two bottom end Plus models though.

As for the iPhone X... not worth the price, IMO. Facial regognition tech is creepy to the Orwellian paranoid side of me, too.

The new iPhone does nothing for me. The cutout is ugly as fuck, the price is insane and TouchID is preferable to alternatives IMO. Nice of Apple to embrace wireless charging 5 years later with no real enhancement to the tech, I'm sure the charging mat will be a $100+ item.

The new Apple TV isn't impressive either BUT the free upgrade of all movies to 4k is very nice and will help prevent library fragmentation and push adoption of UHD stuff.

Otherwise, yeah, insane price, and touchID is far better. While I've learned to live without a fingerprint on the front of my phone, it would have been nice to have it, and losing a home button seems insane to me.

Also, just now getting wireless charging is equally insane. I use it far more often than not.

There is nothing more annoying than people using their speaker on their phone in public. So now Apple thinks a watch with LTE is a good idea? Another engineer had a major brainfart or maybe it was marketing that thought this was a good idea.

Either way, the watch is more a fashion piece than anything usable, it does less than what you phone can do and I personally cannot read anything on it beyond the time.

I mean, the issue isn't the LTE, which has infinitely more functionality than voice, but the addition of a speaker. They can add LTE without adding the ability to make calls, but if they have the room, it's useful, no? The ideal audience for this is the runner that wants full GPS functionality for their run but doesn't want to take their phone, and this gives them the ability to make an emergency phonecall. Or the person going to a concert that doesn't want to bring their entire phone. Again, can now make emergency calls.

And I haven't seen anything that actually says you can do calls without Bluetooth headsets. At launch at least, the watch needed headphones to play music, and would not do it out of the built in speaker.
