Star Citizen Gamescom Presentation

Speaking of space game livestreams, the Star Citizen Gamescom Presentation 2017 is now online, recapping a livestream from yesterday (thanks JDreyer). This has the latest on Cloud Imperium's long-in-development space opera. Word is: "Our fifth-annual Gamescom Presentation hosted by Chris Roberts. See the latest in Star Citizen's development live with the crowd at the Gloria Theater in Cologne, Germany."

Holy crap... it's been so long since I've given a shit about the development this game that I actually forgot it was a thing. Like, seriously.

Yeah, but a SC thread is like a free bag of popcorn! Popcorn

Skyrim is also developed with Creation Engine. Bethesda has worked on these engines since forever. They use their engine for one purpose: big open-world RPGs. Chris took an engine designed for first person shooters and thought he could make it work for a big open solar system with full 3D space sim. Bonkers!

Back in September 2015, I called Star Citizen a long con because it fits all the conditions of one. I'm sure Chris Roberts didn't set out for it to be one but when you have most of the steps checked, it makes you wonder. He and his lawyer partner Ortwin Freyermuth have created a bunch of shell companies during Chris' Hollywood days. Likewise, they created a dozen or so "shell" companies for Cloud Imperium Games. Just saying.

I asked for a refund. I've finally had enough. To you people still holding out hope that this project will ever resemble anything remotely promised by Chris Roberts, good luck.
What took you so long.

Well, yeah, because Skyrim is intentionally compressed to allow players to quickly traverse to get to where they're going and discover places quickly. It respects the player's time. And even then, it's possible to spend 100s of hours playing Skyrim.

Best. Retort. Ever.

I did find a good 10 minute overview:

Meh.
Thanks for that over view.
Who knew the game would need face tracking, that will bring the level of emurshun to a whole other level. For best performance you will only need an OC3 line but if all you have is a T-3 you might be able to play with only major delays and glitchiness.

Why at 2 hours and 14 minutes and 49 seconds did a performer from Cirque Du Soleil "A Nightmare before Christmas in Black and White" walk across the stage and give Chris a drink?

It was the $150M stretch goal! "Chris will hire a performer to be at his beck and call 24/7 to bring him drinks."

The news, or comments on the news? I have no issue with Blue posting news of these clowns releasing more propaganda about their game.

If you mean the comments -- the problem is there are plenty of people who "still believe". The only thing that would work is a complete boycott, and it just isn't going to happen.

I admire their motivation and stubbornness to make this a reality. I am still waiting patiently, but if this keeps up, it might actually become a console game after all, because consoles have become fast enough for it, when its finally ready.

The other thing: this game does not respect the player's time. All that getting up, suiting up, walking, sitting down, parking, etc. etc. is going to get old really quickly. People are going to get tired of taking 45 mins to set up their mission. They're going to want get a group together in a few minutes and start the mission.

I think that it's for a different target audience than those that want to drop and play. For some of that, there are shortcuts. Nothing stops you from wearing your suit as I understand it, or from using shortcuts rather than the interactive menus in the cockpit. I feel like SC is for people who want to roleplay being Han Solo, rather than ones who want to get in for a quick 30.

Unrelated, wouldn't say that all are naysayers. Some are just offer criticism, which is fine. Just like not all who support the game are fanboys. I personally think that Chris Roberts is insane. He has unreasonable expectations, and puts a lot of pressure on those working for him. They're working for a fanatic, but... a fanatic is what I'm looking for, in a game like Star Citizen. I don't want corners cut, I want to see pie in the sky dreams, and hope that as they strive for it, they don't produce a horrorshow.

Right now, it's buggy, but it's looking on track, at least to me. Only time will tell.
