Not really. Trains follow tracks. Trucks playing follow the leader is a convoy.

Trains are a lot more efficient at hauling a lot of cargo long distances, plus the don't clog up the highways and streets. Musk would be better off investing in more rail lines, providing electricity along the rails so that trains could run on electricity along the rail rather than the diesel/electric locomotives we currently use. You still need trucks for end-point delivery though.

Get ready for a surge in homelessness, theft, and burglaries, etc.
Why? Because truck drivers will be out of a job? It will take decades to replace trucks with self driving ones. They will leave the industry mostly through attrition, although it would be nice if there was a training program in place to help workers whose jobs get replaced by automation.

Forecasts

Book

I'm betting within the next decade or less.

That's pretty aggressive. I doubt it will be that quickly. That's $100s of billions in existing assets that need to be replaced. Trucks like that I very expensive and capitalized over decades.

It does employ 10M people though, a lot of them drivers.

So, basically a train?

I for one will be super stoked when Tesla auto piloting semi trucks are the norm.

T-Mobile to launch the Revvl, its own branded budget phone.

That's not a bad little device for $5 / month. Strange name, tho.
