Out of the Blue

Of all the contractor difficulties we've had trying to get our house on the market, securing a painter to polish things off turned out to be the most difficult thing to nail down. But after some fits and starts, I'm pleased to say we have painters on the hook to come in at the end of the week, so presuming there aren't issues with their work, we're very close to completing all our renovations. There's still some packing to be done, but at this point we're targeting August 1st to put the house on the market, so it seems like we're mostly on track, which is a bit of a relief.

Well, my main objection to Dunkirk is it actually happened. And while it is certainly an example of something we need to remember so we can make every effort not to repeat it -- watching a realistic re-enactment doesn't seem "entertaining". But I agree, it looks like another good film by Nolan, and despite my being hesitant about it -- I will probably see it at some point.

It's a fictionalized story built around the actual event... like Saving Private Ryan... which was an absolute masterpiece. It's not realistic; it doesn't even have gore (it's PG-13). Setting the subject aside it still sounds brilliant (Nolan is an amazing director, after all). I'm gonna go see it on Saturday.

Band of brothers has been watched by me a few times. "Why we fight" brings a tear to my eye each time, the atrocities that were suffered by some were staggering.

You can guess most of who-is-who on the interviews yet it is still a good insight. They fact that the series was (albeit dramatized) "real" makes it both un-nerving and fascinating.

At least with the new Apes movies, it is fantasy. I really liked the originals and I think they've done a pretty good job with this reboot. It is the same basic story, with similar results, but I think they have done a good job of putting in some new details and a slightly different spin on it. Maybe not as good a job as was done on the Battlestar Galatica reboot, but still well done.

I hear you. Despite owning and thoroughly enjoying both Private Ryan and Band of Brothers, I've only been able to bring myself to watch each one once.

Is that your opinion, or someone else's? Truthfully, I don't know that I need another film to remind me how terrible war is. It probably is a good film, just not sure I care to see it.

Currently Dunkirk has a 97% on RT. Don't know if I'll see it in the theater, but I'm a huge Nolan fan so I'll see it at some point.

Google's Earth presentation of the Amazon is amazing. This is the kind of stuff I dreamed about when I was in grade school. I distinctly remember staring at full-color photos in my Geography book and thinking, "If only this page could come alive!" Technology is amazing.

Those stairs are pretty cool but low-cost? I seriously doubt it. What's required is a new way of thinking and building homes and retirement communities specifically. Build small ranch style homes instead.
