Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus Officially Revealed

Bethesda.net finally officially announces Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, a new installment in the supernatural World War II shooter series. This trailer shows off the game, which is a direct sequel to Wolfenstein: The New Order, and is once again being developed by MachineGames. The official website for the project is live, offering signups for a newsletter. The official announcement has loads of details, and says to expect a release for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on October 27th:

Proving that you can’t keep a good gun-totin’, hatchet-wieldin’, Nazi-killin’ badass down, BJ Blazkowicz is back in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. The sequel to the critically acclaimed shooter from award-winning studio MachineGames was announced at the Bethesda E3 2017 showcase, and will be available on October 27, 2017, on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Set in America in 1961, The New Colossus will take BJ (dubbed “Terror-Billy” by the Nazis) from post-nuclear Manhattan to small-town Roswell to the bayous and boulevards of New Orleans and beyond, as he leads the Resistance against the Nazi occupation of his beloved country.

But this isn’t just the riveting tale of one man’s mission to build a movement and fight the evil that’s overtaken his nation. BJ must also rebuild himself. After barely surviving the assassination of Nazi General Deathshead at the end of Wolfenstein: The New Order, BJ begins his exhilarating adventure while still recovering from his extensive injuries. Bloody but unbowed, he soon finds himself fully restored and stronger than ever. Along the way, BJ will mow down anyone in his path using an awesome arsenal of high-tech weaponry, including the Laserkraftwerk (perfect for disintegrating Nazi goons) or the Dieselkraftwerk (built to blast a bunch of enemies with gas-powered grenades). BJ can also get up close and personal using the new hatchet – because there’s nothing more satisfying than slamming a handheld ax into the crunchy cranium of a vile Nazi commandant.

Whatever weapons he chooses to use, BJ can not only dual-wield anything from advanced pistols and submachine guns (or any combo of his powerful armaments), but he can upgrade those weapons as well – allowing for even more versatility when it comes to everyone’s favorite pastime: killing Nazis.

And he’ll need every weapon he can find, because this time it’s even more personal. Not only is BJ fighting to take back his homeland, but he’s doing it alongside old friends (including returning favorites like Caroline, Bombate, Set, Max Hass, Fergus or Wyatt, and his now-pregnant partner Anya). These allies – along with new characters like Horton and Grace – will help BJ take down the villainous Frau Engel and her Nazi army, and spark the second American Revolution, ensuring there’s a future for the burgeoning Blazkowicz family.

A world-class shooter with gripping gameplay, compelling characters and a captivating story, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus puts you into the Nazi-stomping boots of BJ Blazkowicz and lets you unleash your inner war hero. Whether you like to sneak around, run-and-gun, take a tactical approach – or all of the above – your goal remains the same: Rally the resistance and end the Nazi’s tyrannical reign in America.

I finally loaded up Wolf TNO last night after buying it for $10 a couple weeks back. Playing on an RX480, the performance is horrible. Frames are all over the place, 25fps then 40 then 55 then 33 in a firefight. Crashes to desktop occasionally. I forced v-sync on in the AMD control panel, set settings to medium, play in a window at 1200x900, and it's still borderline unplayable. I'm going to try setting max FPS to 30 in either the AMD cp or using Rivatuner, but if that doesn't make the game smooth, I just won't be playing it. Pretty sad, and of course Bethesda is no help - their support section has no info and then directs you to the support forum where "the community may have solutions." Funny thing is, I played Wolf The Old Blood a few years ago on an R9 270 and it played perfectly fine...

At least Doom played like a dream.

Must have been during the flame throwing robo dog part of the trailer.

The robot dog is historically accurate for sure.
I stand corrected. Wolfenstein 2 is a fictional story set in an alternate universe in the 1960's. How i forgot that robo-dogs and cat monkeys came to being in the 20's is beyond me.

What do you mean "libertarian socialist?" Those two words are antithetical, by definition.

The words aren't antithetical, the political viewpoints are. Lowercase l lowercase s. When you say Libertarian, you picture some Randroid anarchocapitalist. When you say Socialist, you picture Russian or Chinese communism.

But the idea is that small government and capitalism are not compatible. You're just trading overlords gaming an electoral system to undermine democracy, for overlords gaming an economic system to undermine the free market. I like the idea of decentralized government bodies controlled by more direct democracy with strong protection for personal liberty. Also true ownership of the means of production by the people. That's not something that's ever actually been done.

It's essentially a nice dream but barring a giant meteor coming down and rebooting civilization, it's never going to happen. The current systems are too entrenched and cannot be changed unless destroyed.

Also to the guy who invoked Godwin's Law... it by definition does not apply to discussions that are already about Nazis.

Hitler was actually one of the most talented and powerful orators of the last century.

Yep municipal gun free zones are fucking stupid. Criminals will still get guns from outside the city and the law abiding people living IN the city will be disarmed. Good fucking idea idiots.
Don't be so sure. The reason I chose to compare Jacksonville, FL to Chicago is because FL has some of the most "liberal" gun control laws in the nation: no permit is required to purchase any gun, no registration is required, concealed carry is easy to get, stand your ground is legal, it's actually a felony to compile a list of gun owners, etc. The per capita murder rate in Jacksonville in 2017 so far is 1 in 14,000 while Chicago is 1 in 93,000. While you can't attribute all of that to gun laws, certainly they have an effect. And it's pretty stark.

Other than mandatory background checks, no gun control worth passing is going to make it past Constitutional muster, so you have to repeal the 2nd Amendment which is NEVER going to happen. Nor should it IMHO. Then again I'm a libertarian socialist so I'm vehemently against a disarmed populace.

Yeah but the SS had a whole made up mythology behind it and was willing to co-opt almost anything to enhance it's power.

Right, like how they re-wrote the Aryan mythology to include the Japanese as some long-lost tribe or something (IIRC).

Probably not, because that knowledge makes it harder for them to feel self-righteous.

I can easily see a "purged and rebuilt" KKK that acts as kind of an SS-lite organization. The flunkies who you don't want weilding real power but still have to give a job because their daddies have some measure of influence get shoved into the KKK as a backwater to feel proud over while the people with real potential get moved on to the secret societies that award power. Either that or it's what the shit dregs of humanity organize into to distract them from the real business of ruling.

T-t-triggggered!

Say, no promises BluesNews folks, but I'll make a mod for this game. It may cause some triggers for 'Pubs and 'Crats. For the main bosses of the game I'll include some high-res, shoddy face textures of Donald Chump and Hitlary. No promises, but I may also include Bullshit Johnson. It will also include some cool sound voice effects.

Look out for my mod in the future. Not sure what it should be called though. Wolftenstein II: The Godwinning HD Edition? The Hitler Within? The Don and Hill Edition?

Machine Games make the absolute best trailers.

I don't know if I've been more excited about a game in the past ten years.

But yea, I'm in the camp where I loved New Order but Old Blood feel flat for me, so hopefully this is more of the former

That was perhaps the greatest trailer, in the history of trailers.

I just hope it keeps the pedigree of the original. Between that and Doom (who'd have thought Id had that in em?), we've been getting some pretty amazing shooters lately.

And with decent single player campaigns, too.

Also, I agree that trailer was amazing.

im getting a bit of a Duke Nukem vibe from it... its got an over-the-top action plus weirdo comedy thing going on... seems a bit different than the previous ones

I'm glad Machine Games is continuing with the franchise, as they did a great job reviving it with New Order and Old Blood, but yeah, I agree, hopefully they don't Duke it up too much.

For some odd reason I could not finish Old Blood, it was just a slog. New Order was amazing however. Hopefully it's more like that one.
