Friday the 13th: The Game Launch Hits Bad Luck

Friday the 13th: The Game launched on Friday the 25th on Steam, but it's still been bad luck for the launch of this movie tie-in, despite almost 40 years to work on it since the launch of the first film in the series (thanks GameInformer). The problems are pretty significant, gauging by this wall of text post on Facebook discussing them. They go into individual issues and how to work around them. There is also an update on Kickstarter on the topic, also discussing the status of back rewards.

Part of the problems (I RTFA) was they planned for 30k players and got 75k and it blew up their database so bad it corrupted.
Being as that's simultaneous logins, probably the actual sales are higher

Because databases just corrupt themselves when attempting to write excess data?

Saw a let's play video on this and was astounded at how awful it looked and played. Unbelievable that they could release this game in this state and expect to have anything but overwhelming negative reaction by gamers.

Uhm...

Sorry. I confused it with another game that will take AT LEAST 40 years until release (of a very limited beta).

Alien Isolation was based on a 40 year old property and came out pretty well by all accounts. So it can be done. Seems like these folks didn't care enough to.

My son rang me the other day saying it was a really good price for launch day. Happily I said no way. His young (15) he will learn that releasing half a game with no critic reviews means don't buy it yet.
