Far Cry 5 in February

Ubisoft officially announces Far Cry 5, saying the first-person shooter sequel is "coming to America's heartland" on February 27, 2018. This confirms the recently revealed setting of Hope, Montana, a fictional county in the allegedly actual state, where you will take on a group of armed cultists. There's more on this in the UbiBlog, where they offer information along with this interview trailer with details on the game and how difficult it may be to survive the game's environment. They also have an official announce trailer that sets the tone for the game. They also feature some trailers introducing some of the characters you will team up with your resistance against the cult: Mary May, Pastor Jerome Jeffries, and Nick Rye. Here's the announcement:
Today, Ubisoft® announced that gamers will experience the chaos, unpredictability and ferociousness of the Far Cry franchise with Far Cry® 5 on PlayStation®4 Pro computer entertainment system, PlayStation®4, the Xbox One family of devices, including Project Scorpio, and Windows PC. Set in America for the first time, in Montana, players will have total freedom to navigate this serene-looking yet deeply twisted world solo or entirely in two-player co-op as they fight for survival and freedom, when the game releases on February 27, 2018. Development for Far Cry 5 is being led by Ubisoft Montreal*.

As the new junior deputy of fictional Hope County, Montana, players will find that their arrival accelerates a years-long silent coup by a fanatical doomsday cult, the Project at Eden's Gate, igniting a violent takeover of the county. Caught off guard and drawn into a power struggle, players must disrupt the carefully laid plans of the Project at Eden’s Gate and fan the fires of resistance to help liberate the Hope County community and themselves.

Under siege and cut off from the rest of the world, players will join forces with residents of Hope County and form the Resistance. The fight against the cult will take players to unique locations throughout Hope County that provide different gameplay experiences. During their journey, players can fly planes to engage cult forces in aerial dogfights across Big Sky Country. While tracking down cult members and gathering resources for survival across farmland, forests, mountains and rivers, players can get behind the wheel of iconic American muscle cars, big rigs, ATVs and boats. Vehicles also provide refuge when under attack by animals or as a way to quickly escape when things don’t go as planned.

To take down the cult, players will need to utilize any and all weapons at their disposal, including ranged weapons such as guns and grenades and melee weapons like a sledgehammer or baseball bat. Additionally, players can recruit Guns for Hire from a large cast of characters, or even Fangs for Hire, specialized animals like bears and cougars to complement players’ playstyles whether they’re going in stealthily or forcefully. How players approach each situation and the chaos they create in Far Cry 5 is up to them. Far Cry 5 will also see the return of the map editor, giving players the opportunity to create and play an infinite amount of new playgrounds. The map editor will include new features that add a new dimension to the content created by fans, with more details coming soon.

Additionally, players on PlayStation®4 system will get free content with purchase of the game at launch. Players on Xbox and PC systems will have the same content available through the Ubisoft Club.

Nice trailer, looks interesting. Dude over at Ars was basically orgasming all over it, though. "OMG IT LOOKS LIKE AN ACTUAL MOVIE IT IS TEH MOST GORGEOUSEST!".

Yeah, because we've never seen absurdly beautiful trailers from Ubisoft before that later turn into "eh" graphics when the game gets released. Rolleyes

So do the cultists have random bases, where you can appropriate various vehicles & upgrade your weapons, gadgets, armor, with random NPCs, who you can talk to, rescue, liberate, and shop from?

Cos that would really be cool, and eh...a never before seen feature.

Certainly a very interesting, surprisingly non-generic setting and not lookin' ta shabby at first glance.

Too bad it's a Ubishit game and won't be playable for the first year on PC. The guaranteed piss-poor port coupled with the obligatory lame-ass season pass (*puke*) and other ripoffs and microtransaction lameness unfortunately makes this yet another wait-for-the-$10-GOTY affair. Fuck modern gaming publishers.

Armed cultists. A very apt way to describe republicans.

Meh I need to see more details. I hope this isn't the same crap where 800 people worked on it so it got cut up into very generic, repetitive slices. Have they learned anything from other open world games recently? I really don't want to hunt pelts to craft ammo pouches, repeat the same 5 activities until I bleed from the eyes or watch a loot animation 10000 times.

Just hearing the premise/setting isn't giving me any hope either, the whole "cut off and must fan the flames of resistance" sounds suspiciously like "liberate 50 outposts" from the other games.

After the surprisingly ok Watch_Dogs 2 I would like to be optimistic but...it's Ubisoft. Ghost Recon Wildlands could not have been a more generic, bland experience.

As someone who is actually in the "Heartland" I consider Montana as being in the "West". I guess the coast snowflakes (not you Blue of course) consider everything not on the coasts as "Heartland". Protest

Looks great, except for maybe people out that way following a guy with a manbun (and wasn't Olgeird von Everec on the box art?)

Anyway, I dug FC3 and FC4 a ton, will maybe try Primal when it gets super cheap, and can't imagine disliking this. I hope they stray from or make significant changes to the formula, but even if it is just the formula I know I'd dig it. I know what I'm getting with these games enough to buy them early.

What a load of crap. Projecting what Muslims do daily around the world on Christians. Just yesterday Muslims in Egypt mowed down 24 Coptic Christians.

But hey its easier to smear Christians since you know they aren't violent, right?

Since when aren't Christians violent? I mean, first off, it's like no one remembers the IRA. Second off, Branch Davidians. Third off, every single abortion clinic bombing. Lastly, Cliven Bundy and his band of morons.

But I'm sorry you feel so persecuted in a country you very literally run, to the point that Montana last night elected a Congressman that believes retirement is bad because it isn't mentioned in the Bible - Noah lived to 600 (is there a dumber belief?) without retiring, so Americans shouldn't expect to be able to.

Yeah, though, so persecuted.

They sure started the hype train pretty early on this one.
Maybe it was like this with all the other Far Cry games I am not sure, but this one is almost a year away.

What a nothingburger response Beamer.

Did I say I was persecuted? No. I said this Ubisoft smears Christians with a Hollywood-esque view of Christianity. It could easily be any number of cults but this is what they chose.

IRA were terrorists who wanted Ireland separated from GB. Did you even see the video? Dragging women into ponds and pushing them underwater happens WHERE in Ameria? Please post the news articles.

And like I said Christianity has no directives to kill nonbelievers. But the Quran does. So your example of literally 300 people is offset with the Muslim world 1+ billion.

And believing that life sprang from rocks and mud is much more idiotic than believing someone lived 600 years ( not to mention there used to be a lunar calendar as well ).
